If it helps, I have been eyeballing the fan duty cycle on mine with a 2" smaller fan, and have yet to see over 32% duty cycle even after ripping on it, and after adjusting the fan curve this morning, I never saw above 14% cruising to work. The CFM of these factory e fans is killer, and can easily compete with a clutch fan, but with a LOT more control of your temps. Glad we did this on our trucks, and the FD. Been one of the most practical mods to date I think.

Yeah these were good choices I think, you should really have a build thread but feel free to share a pic of the E46 fan on yours here too.

I'm sure you will talk me into it at some point. I have to remember to be more consistent at checking TW first. In the mean time, e46 fan on pickup v6 radiator. Just needs a bit more finessing like we gave yours and it will be golden.

That is super cool Zane. Do you think you would be able to run a smaller radiator with the higher efficiency fan?

From what I was seeing while out tuning and testing tonight, I don't think smaller radiator would work too well. I do however think the biggest benefit to the pwm electric fan is having more control over temperatures, and how much better it was maintaining heat soak, and iat coolant temps vs the mechanical fan.

It did just fine maintaining temperature this evening but I have to agree it would be harder to go smaller than the radiator I already have (which is a nothing special NAPA manual trans rad). I'd be worried a smaller rad could heat soak during a pull or a MTN pass. The fan kept the temps from ever climbing this evening much more than the stock fan did but I don't know that it alone is enough extra to allow you to go for the 5lug 2.4 radiator (only smaller one I know of). I think maybe it would be a possibility with an electric water pump, the only time the temps go up from about 191 on my truck is when I'm sitting idling, and that's not the fans fault, just bringing the RPM to 2000 causes them to sink right back to 189-190. It's worth noting we just turned the fan off in the tune above 55mph (can probably lower that), and that tonight it didn't get over 80% DC and likely wouldn't get that high if the temps weren't forced to rise at idle by the water pump speed.

Changed loose ass SPC ball joints out on the alignment rack, this thing is always so much fun to align, two years on the same alignment though and all we had to do was correct camber (cause of the joint change) and she's still happy.

Do you have a picture of the new vs. old joints?

Edit: ball joints, nevermind. I was curious about the X-Axis.

Could you tell any difference? They looked the same to me on the arms I swapped out (but according to SPC, they are tighter tolerance joints).

Yeah the construction is a bit different to my eye actually. They're really hard to move by hand and the boot around the inner spherical portion is different. The outer (inner) sleeve the spherical is pressed into appears to have changed as well. The overall machining quality is better too, sharp edges are chamfered and there's less chatter.

Out of curiosity, you going anywhere special for alignments. Or rather have a recommendation for a local shop? Been to 6 different shops in our area over the past 4 years and each time I get the truck back it’s worse than when it went in. Currently fighting pulling left, an off center wheel and astronomical tire wear. I’ve blown through 2 sets of tires in roughly 30k with 3k rotations. Currently my outside lugs have 0/32 and the insides lugs are 10-12/32. Previous set wore similar with 2/32 outer and 12/32 inner. Every shop keeps implying everything is great. Obviously not. Trying to get this resolved before I trash another set of tires.

This is at a buddy's shop after hours, he's kind enough to let me do work on the rack and then align the truck. Takes a good bit of fiddling around on the rack to get what you want. That's why they don't often bother, because every time they make a large change to correct something they have to re-sweep the truck (essentially start the computer guided part) again to check the results. I don't know where in Eastern WA you are but another buddy of mine started his own offroad oriented tire/alignment shop in airway heights called Bison Tire, the techs there are good folks and understand modified geometry and adjusting aftermarket parts. I would call them up and explain your situation. Last time I took my little daily driver BMW there in a time crunch they didn't even want to charge me for it afterward because they couldn't align every aspect without special BMW tools but they still got everything to where it wouldn't wear out tires and would drive straight. Good folks

I am very envious of what you can do on that rack. My last two trips to firestone have not had ideal outcomes.

I have an appointment for this thursday at an independent shop in Auburn. Hopefully I can convince them to try to maximize the caster on mine or at least see what happens when they try.

Kind of sounds like a missing bushing somewhere or one that's completely rotted out
