Recently had my windshield replaced and noticed this gap at the bottom plastic cowl. Is it fine like that or should it be pressed down all the way? Is the glue suppose to hold it down? I tried pressing it down and it still lifts. Where would water lead to:confused:

Who ever replaced the shield didn’t do a good job, It may not leak today but I would have them redo the gasket

See if the plastic shroud is secure, when I got my windshield at safe lite they broke most of the plastic pins and it was just flopping in the wind and they replaced it and the window because it was instald wrong to.I will not take it there again

It probably won't matter much cause it's not a perfect seal from the factory It will not leak in your cab if they put the window in correctly

    Thanks for the replies.

Ah crap guess I’ll give them a call. Would you happen to know where water leads to under the gasket? Looks like it’s just into the engine bay.

Just checked the shroud and the pushpins. Drove it around around today and it’s secure along with no additional wind noise so i would say seal around the windshield is good. Hopefully that stands with no water leaks after I wash it next weekend.

Agreed. Noticed some slight distortion on the upper right corner. Not enough to bother me though. I ended with a Fuyao aftermarket replacement.

Guess this answers my previous question. Thanks a bunch. What brand windshield did you get? I’ve always read threads about how easily chipped 3rd gen windshields are and how some are on their 3rd replacement. My OEM lasted 5yrs, 90k miles. I’ll be happy if this Fuyao does the same. I know Honda uses them and they have a plant in the US.

My new aftermarket Fuyao windshield has the same passenger side too right corner distortion. Pisses me off, I sit high in the truck that’s to my genes from my 6’4” father who has a 28” inseam.
The Plinkington OEM and first aftermarket windshield didn’t.
If I want it warrantied, the local glass company that I use, which Safelight recommends, would charge me out of pocket for labor and urethane since Safelight doesn’t cover that.

My factory windshield has distortion in the upper drivers side corner. There are also wavy lines throughput the glass. They’re not that noticeable until you know they’re there. Glass is Pilkington.

Whoever set the windshield set it too high. If it was safelite then have them warranty it.

Third gen glass is tough to set for people who aren’t use to working with it. The side moldings come pre installed on the glass so if you set it incorrectly the installer is screwed because the moldings fit so tight against the body you can’t make height changes after the initial set. Most glass has distortion some are worse then others at certain angles. The urethane is used to seal the windshield. No urethane is used on the cowl. On the third gen the windshield needs to be low enough to the cowl to hook on the plastic fingers but not to low to have a excessive gap on top. The top under lay should have around a 45 degree angle from the glass to the roof line.

Oem windshields can have distortions as well. Pilkington is Toyotas oem. But I’ve noticed glass quality has gone down across the board since Covid. So it’s hit and miss. Even if you inspect the glass prior to install you may not see a distortion until the glass is set at the right angle.

As far as shitty installers… yeah like any job some people are hacks and don’t give a shit.

Also check the a pillars inside to make sure the urethane isn’t oozing out from the glass. Could indicate improper gun angle when shooting the bead.

I would want it fixed. But looking at the trim… as stated above throw some trim dressing on that plastic. I use

CERAKOTE Ceramic Trim Coat Kit - Quick Plastic Trim Restorer -
I have tried at least 5 others and this seems to work the rest and lasts.

Either way I would not attempt to seal it myself I would take it back and tell them to look it over and fix it.

I also just got my windshield replaced. While I think the installers did a good replacement, I did notice a slight sound on the passenger corner and is a tad annoying, but I'm glad I'm not the only one. Wonder why that's a common issue

That's a pretty good gap. Better not touch it. Let them fix it.

I had a Tacoma windshield replaced and I suspect the glass was under some bending stress. I had a large bug hit my windshield and the next day I had a crack all the way across the windshield.

Spray the windshield real good with a garden hose. If you see water below the dash take it back to the glass place.
