    OK, dumb question time:
the sensor loses calibration if it is unplugged but not if the battery is disconnected?

Never heard of a shop turning someone away because of this. So this is new to me.

That's odd because I've replaced windshields with aftermarket glass and some customers even though it was not needed brought thier cars back to the dealer to get recalibrated and never had an issue.

I'm no good with electrical components. It is a great question though.

That just could be an issue with the
Safelite I went to. After reading reviews of the place, it kind of makes sense. (They aren’t the best)

When USAA claims transferred me over to Safelite and I interacted with them, I contacted USAA again and told them I refused to deal with Safelite and they would lose all my home/auto business unless I could get windshield replaced by my dealership and have no further contact with anyone from Safelite… they were that big of assh0les. Rude. Argumentative. Confrontational. And I don’t even have a lift!

I had the same "no can calibrate" after Safelite did mine last year. Same reason, 2" lift. Had to sign a waiver before I left.
I planned to go to the dealer to recall but no lights, no issue equals no need, never did. Everything works as it should.
Won't ever go back to Safelite.

I am guessing because the position of the sensor hasn't changed? I made an appointment online with Safelite and when I went to the shop they said they were booked up for the next 3 months. My insurance told me to schedule a mobil appointment. A week later a Safelite guy showed up, at my house, and installed my trucks windshield. I was going to just pay for the new windshield at the shop because it was about the same price as the deductible. The mobil service was about twice as expensive. Anyways, it sure seems like a shady operation.

I was thinking the reason for calibrating the sensor is to adjust for height and other variations of the vehicle. If all Toyota Tacoma 3rd gens were X height then the sensors could be preset at the factory. No need for calibration. My thinking anyways, but I don't know shit about it.

Told the same thing from satellite, I’ve had 4 windshield replaced by them still(I have glass coverage), and each time I just have to sign a waiver that I understand the calibration wasn’t done. They’ve never unplugged the sensors, and I’ve never needed a calibration.

The dealer won't do the calibration either if you have any kind of lift even if they replace the windshield.

Well if you’ve bought the TRD lift kit, they will. They do, and they advertise that fact. So that argument doesn’t really hold water IMHO.

A bit of thread jacking here, but where in AZ are you going for the windshield replacement? Mines pitted to heck and is in dire need. I also have progressive with $250 comp deductible, but I'd have to check to see if I have full glass coverage.

That would be the exception, I forgot all about that whole deal. So I guess I should have said "aftermarket" lift. Some won't even do it if you have even gone to a lager than stock tire size even with stock suspension.

I just called into Progressive to make a claim. They keep using a place called NuVision.

I might try Bluechip. NuVision has terrible reviews on yelp.

Ok so your all well over thinking and missing the point of what is going on.
A calibration has zilch to do with a camera being plugged in or not. You can do that all day without throwing it out. It has to do with the location and focal point of the camera. It is adjusting for any variances in the camera bracket location if the focus through the glass changed things like that.
Majority of the time you can get away without a calibration with good quality glass. However the second a vehicle is modified there is 0 gaurentee that system will function properly, most shops will refuse to calibrate under that basis as the angles and distance to calibration targets need to be adjusted.
The reason toyota can calibrate the trd lift kit as the have tested and adjusted accordingly to make this work. Ever notice how that kit comes with the heritage grille moving the tss sensor down? That's part of it.
Now with that being said most shops will still install with a liability waiver signed.

My only negative comment about NuVision was that I also used them for the rear window and the installer showed up with an incomplete window. I specifically told them it was the power rear and he showed up with the sliding part missing, ha.

I’ve had several replaced through the years on different vehicles, was always no cost to me through insurance. Had a rock chip that turned into a big crack, had mine replaced on my Tacoma about 2 years ago. The shop calibrated it with no problem, the only issue was that I had to go to the shop instead of them coming to me. Was Pilkington glass, everything is perfect. Only things I noticed were no Toyota logo and the GoPro mount doesn’t have the GoPro logo. I’ve never had a single issue with aftermarket glass in any vehicle, including my Tacoma with TSS.
