Awesome build. I'd like to do something similar with my '99, but I want to keep my 5 speed manual transmission. Do you know if the 1KZ-TE will bolt up to the R150-F and manual transfer case? I imagine the wiring would be simpler with a manual trans.

From what I've seen, you need to swap out bell housings (from a 5vz-fe to match KE-te bolt Pattern) and then make sure to use a one piece flywheel.

Yeah, but I believe there's differences with the input shaft length. I'm not an expert of doing the swap with a manual trans unfortunately.

It's really not too hard to wire in the auto though. The only part that requires thinking is the park/neutral switch.

Yeah, I prefer my manual transmission. I wouldn't want an automatic even if it were domestically available as a diesel.

Yeah the manual would be cool behind this motor. But between the solid flywheel/clutch kit from Roughtraxx ($600), finding a bell housing (ebay, $400), and getting the proper transmission/tcase (???) and all associated hardware, it wasn't worth it for me for the 12 wires I wouldn't have to add to the harness and minor bump in MPG and simplicity. The only downside with the auto is not being able to stay in the sweet spot of the power band when downshifting (the auto just revs to redline like you'd expect and the torque isn't as good there) But the A340F is bulletproof and it's so much better for wheelin'. I have my 400 HP twin-charged Outback for having fun rowing through gears. :D

Oh yeah, I wasn't saying I didn't like your setup. It's badass!!! I'm just brainstorming how to get a diesel with a MT on my truck. I appreciate all of your help and insight.

Nice man! Great little build... i'm a fan of those boxer motors on boost. Excellent craftsmanship

Also, glad you survived a brain hemorrhage, if I understood your 'hydraulic line bursting' comment correctly.
I hope, since you are in colorado, you are using CBD to help protect your brain in the future!

Damn, sad to see it go. I hope you got most of your money back from the sell.

Do you happen to know where I can find the swap guide, ecu wiring info, and where to go for oem parts?

There isn't a swap guide :D. The closest thing is the thread you're reading.

There's really not much information out there. I had to work really hard to figure this all out on my own.

In all honesty - this swap is similar to pretty much every other engine swap where you have to merge wiring. You just have to be able to understand the two systems you're swapping and use the respective diagrams and general circuit knowledge to do it. Then the mechanical stuff but that's easy enough to figure out.

Yeah, I read through your thread, just didn't see a wiring guide. I can deal with the engine and tranny, its the ecu wiring.

Yeah it'd be quite a lot of work to publish that all into an easy format. The diagrams are out there - I figure if people are so-inclined, they can find those and tackle it. It's really not that hard, and it's all part of the fun ;)
