My antenna is getting bent up pretty good from the car wash. I was wondering if there was an antenna mod or a stubby antenna available for these tacomas?

By the way this is the antenna on the front fender, not the shark fin on top. Not sure why there are two...?

Can you not remove the antenna before you send it into the car wash?

I could have, but didn't know that was going to happen. Now that it has I want to get something better before it breaks off. It would probably be fine with it bent, for many years, but I can't live with it.

I picked up a 13" antenna from O'reillys for $10 bucks looks like a short version of the stocker. I had to change mine due to the stocker dragging on my garage door. And I haven't had any reception issues so far.

Always remove your antenna before taking it in a car wash.

I just chopped my off and reinstalled the ball on the end. It's just a shorter version of the stock antenna. I chopped mine to be 15" tall. The shark fin antenna on the top of the cab is for satellite radio.

The cab antenna is for XM Satellite radio.
I also simply chopped mine down and didn't even re-install the ball. Some heat-shrink tape on the end, though. Works perfectly.

I'm going to need to get a shorter one someday when I get tired of it hitting the garage door due to 3" lift & 33" tires.

Has anyone tried one of these specifically that listens to radio stations on the fringe and can comment on reception? Is there any sacrifice? The radio station I listen to most is about an hour away and comes in but if I drive away from it it will start to fade. I'm worried that if I get an antenna that has less performance I may lose the station I listen to most when I'm driving.

I bought this exact one from ebay a few months back. The reception is fine on all the stations that I listen too, but is a little weak on others. The biggest issue for me was the sun faded it to a copper color and I just repainted it (I do live in AZ though). Cant beat it for the price, especially if it gets jacked which is what I was most worried about.

Any more details on made some better and some worse? Are you saying that you had stations that were so so on reception and installing this improved them?
