Just got mine today :) i haven't put it on yet, but as soon as i saw the little black adapter thing in the package, i imediately thought that has to be the problem...give it a shot without the black thing. i'm going to put mine on tomorrow morning. i'll report back with results

This is correct. The black piece on the bottom is not needed- Just use the top piece and screw it into the bottom of the antenna. No need for the black metal adapter.

^^^ yeah, just looked at the back of the packaging, and it looks loke the black thing is supposed to be used for chrsler vehicles, or for adding length for a recessed antenna hole in the vehicle.

alright, finally home after a loooong day, sorry about the delay. i got the antenna on and flush. that black thing is indeed your problem. i just found the silver connector that matched the threads on the taco, screwed it into the antenna, and then screwed the antenna into the truck. it's dark here now, but i can take a picture tomorrow if yours still doesn't work.

and as far as reception, i don't think it is any better or worse than before...the antenna just looks really good :)

for some reason, even with the right adaptor, i still had a lot of trouble getting the threads started, but once i got it one or two threads ion, it was very easy (and no i didn't strip it)

    i'd give it another shot

Just got mine in the mail today. Installed in a matter of seconds. I don't know if anyone else is having this issue but the antenna doesn't sit flush with the antenna mount on the truck?!?! Over all I like the look, I will test reception quality later on today!

i believe that is what it is supposed to look like, mine has about a 2 mm gap like yours. another member was having issues because she used the black adaptor. you could probably take a hacksaw to the silver pieve and take off a couple of threads to get it flush, but i'm not sure if that would mess with the reception.

btw, bullzi, you ever get yours figured out?

Thanks for the info colin! I think I am going to just leave it alone for now and see how it does. Let me know if you make any changes to yours and if it works!

Still messing with it. I removed the large plastic piece from it, but the small painted black metal piece is temporarily stuck to the silver piece that screws into the truck. I plan on getting that part off tonight. I was one tool short when I was working on it earlier today. I really hope I can get it flush once I remove that piece. If not, I'm all out of ideas and just painting the damn silver part black! And as for the black plastic piece, I can't tell if it's supposed to be attached or not. Do you have any pics of yours? Did I just overlook them??

Looks at Pete's post with the pictures in it a few posts up. mine looks just like that. some pliers should be able to get the pieces appart. once you get the silver piece out, you do use the plasitc piece...but before you do, a couple things to look at. first, take off the bottom plastic piece. there is a threaded piece inside that. make sure that that is screwed all of the way into the actual antenna, then reattach the plastic base. this will allow you the screw in the silver piece to the plastic part as far as possible. then you just screw the whole thing into the truck.

if your still stuck, i can take some closeups tomorrow. just shoot me a pm

I haven't taken a picture, but mine looks exactly like Pete's. It does not sit perfectly flush, but IMO, it still looks 10 times better than the factory mast. My radio reception is the same as the stock antenna.

Thanks. I think that means I had them properly installed on my first attempt, before I second guessed myself....

I have been driving around with it for the past few days. The look has definately grown on me and my reception is the same as the stock antenna.

I've had mine for a few weeks and all is pretty well. The reception quality decreased, but minimally (wouldn't catch it unless you were listening specifically for it). As for the bend, I'm at the point now where it's got a semi-permanent bend in it. After coming off the interstate, the bend slowly returns TOWARDS straight up and down, but doesn't quite get there all the way. As I sit at red lights, it looks like I'm still kinda flying down the highway. Either way, reception quality wasn't affected, nor was the overall look of the antenna. And I don't know what to do about that gab between the base of the antenna and the mount, but oh well, you can hardly tell. Overall I'm glad I got it, the stock one was kinda goofy looking.

Just found this thread. I've had one of the 13" AntennaX's on my truck for a little while now. I like the look and that fact that it's short and carwash-worthy, but do have one major complaint. Does anyone else's sound like a damn tornado outside the passenger door?!?! Mine makes more friggin wind noise than I thought was possible from something so small! I looked through this whole thread and didn't see any other comments about that . . . am I alone?
