240? I wanted to get one - but one kind of heavily modified vehicle is enough for me - my eventual a86 Toyota dd'r will stay forever stock

And heck yeah - next time I want to be driving my 4x4 so we can go wheelin!

I've done a mod or two
I like 240s too but for the past 3 years or so I've been helping my buddy with his project Z31 300ZX in my free time. It has always been an absolute blast for me to drive and I want one of my own, and I've never owned a sports car of any kind. It went from a bone stock perfect example of an 80s Turbo 300ZX making just under 210HP to a Holset blown drag monster making just under 500HP now. Knowing what I know after helping him through all the major stages of his build I think I could be race ready faster given I know the obstacles now. All in a super light chassis. Here are a couple of beauty shots I took of it when we went to a car show, the very same day he shined up my truck right before I flipped it. This is sort of a bucket list car for me so I may put off the truck build for a while so I can build this thing to race my buddy.

Yeah just got a solid lead on one today, thinking I'm gonna jump on it after XMAS. Turbo will just have to go on the 300ZX haha, I'll hold off on purchasing an LT kit until I'm ready to put one on. Still need to do my engine mounts though haha, those are fucked from clutch drops.

Had a spa day - oil change, inside and outside wash, new valve stem caps, and re-painted the grill that had started to fade and the clear coat had wore through. Looking clean.

Solo couldn't get my kit finished for the Bean - I was bummed about that, but I wasn't going to let it stop this 3 day weekend from kicking @$$.

Decided I'd head to Anza and camp for a night. Somewhere on the freeway I said to myself I'd head back to Jacumba Hot Springs and do some border angels stuff.

Went through Garden Grove around 12:00 am.

Got down to my favorite rest stop a few miles away from the border around 3am. You can see lights in the background in Mexico.

Woke up to the sound of someone letting air out of my tires!

Luckily it turned out to be a bunch of heep guys at a clinic for backing into parking spaces at the mall without any of those scary curbs to worry about.

I did like that XJ and the blue YJ tho...

Took a civilized dump at the Chevron across the street and saw the jeep guys heading out to the mall.

Got to the border. Not sure why everyone was so hyped about a wall - there already is one and it's been there for about 10 years...

For anyone that doesn't know what the border angels are - they leave food / water / supplies in this area for people where they can end up dying in the extreme hot and cold in the mountains where the wall doesn't go through. I don't care what your politics are, no one deserves to die in the desert - often it's women and children, too - last time I was here I found a woman's purse in the middle of some gnarly terrain. I momentarily thought about what it would be like if it had been my mother who had dropped it there...

    Brought my contribution:

Left el burrito behind and headed up into the wilderness - wasn't long before I found a sign of someone crossing.

Dropped my cache near where I found this since it obviously didn't come from the US. I think I left my stuff too far away from the main path for people when I was here last year. Some of the water bottles were still good enough to drink from so I redid my setup with them for the next year...

Now it was time to head up into the rocks.

Hiked around and ate a snack. Got tired and took a nap, I woke up to this view:

In some ways I think this place out Joshua Tree's Joshua Tree Park - nothing against JT - I love that place, too. If you look closely you can see the southern tip of the Salton Sea.

    Looking back into Mexico.

Found someone's camp in a drainage cave.

Found some awesome rock formations and caves on the way back.

El Burrito waiting patiently for me to return.

It had been about 7 hours since I took off in the morning and the sun was getting low.

Drove around Jacumba Hot Springs and got some sunset glow lighting up the place.

It was time to hit the road.

Saw @jakebray around Dana Point at a gas station. That was awesome running into someone familiar on a road trip. Over all a great little escape and I still have 2/3 days left of the holiday!

More burro-ing as a parts-getter. 3 more weeks and I'll be finished with my program in school. 9 years...

Hopefully there will be more adventures in a few weeks - until then it's: :playball:

Wen the on a super fun road trip to Redding and Lone Pine. Mission was to pick up some really cheap parts for payment for Anthony250 to help me on my 1st gen's front and rear suspension. Left 11:00 pm Thursday from LA.

    IMG_1122.jpg

Drove 9 hours and arrived in Redding to see an awesome sunrise.

    IMG_6440.jpg

The guy I bought the parts from suggested I go see the nearby Shasta Dam - man good suggestion - it was a really nice spot.

    IMG_6444.jpg
    IMG_6449.jpg
    IMG_6457.jpg

Was going to hike for awhile to get some more photographs, but I felt more like heading on my way down south - to make the drive home interesting I headed east on 44 to hook up with 395 and drove for 4ish hours. Super scenic area the whole drive. Trees became more common as I gained elevation.

    IMG_1143.jpg

Got into some heavily wooded pine forest.

    IMG_1152.jpg

Came out on the other side down into Susanville.

    IMG_1161.jpg

Turned onto 395 and headed south.

    IMG_6534.jpg

Pulled off the freeway around sunset and gassed up - saw a first gen that hopefully was getting a new beginning.

    IMG_1169.jpg

The moon came up when passing by Silver Lake, NV and got some pics of it.

    IMG_6560.jpg
    IMG_6552.jpg

Headed down to Carson City and knocked out. Three hours later I woke up and headed south to Lone Pine. Slept from 1am to 10am in my seat - every couple hour or so I woke up freezing so I'd turn the engine on and blow heat until it was warm in the cab and went back to sleep - think I did that about 4 times until sunrise. Woke up, bought some food and went up to Alabama Hills and hiked south of Whitney Portal road for the first time - it was t-shirt weather with no wind!

    Mt. Whitney

    IMG_6620.jpg

It had rained a few days before I was there.

    IMG_6654.jpg

    Got back around sunset.

    IMG_6715.jpg

    Left as it got dark.

    IMG_6735.jpg

Got the loot to @Anthony250's house and headed home 48 hours after I had left.

Found a good deal in Orcutt on a set of beadlocks and a spare streetlock for the can of worms so spent the night camping in Big Sur Saturday. Pretty awesome weather. Didn't mind the rain since it made the hills green and sky have some nice ambiance.

    Left around 5 am.

Sun was coming up somewhere around Santa Barbara

    E13CCD68-7191-43EF-BE10-3195A467543F.jpg

Headed through Los Osos to go hiking - you could see super far.

This was our view at dinner.

This was our patio dining area:

Last pic before disappearing into the clouds:

    IMG_8603.jpg

On the top it was pretty foggy and the tops of the trees caught enough fog to make rain storms right underneath them! It made us move from this relatively protected camp site to one that was exposed to the wind that didn't have any trees.

The way down got a little muddy.

We drove back to 101 from our campsite through the rain all the way to Pismo where you could see further than almost any day down the dunes.

Picked up the wheels in Orcutt for less than 50% retail :woot:

Went down to Lompoc and miraculously the truck was spotless from driving through the rain.

Drove through Solvang - man what a ghost town :(

Stopped at Lake Cachuma - level was up from three years ago, but it looked like down from last year.

Awesome trips. Lots of cool adventures. My wife and I love most of the places you have gone, Big Sur, Solvang, Santa Barbara, SLO, driving the 395, etc.

Been awhile, been working on resealing the valve cover and noted a bit of oil and coolant missing over the past 3 years but going strong enough still. Hit 200k.

Recently went on a 1000 mile road trip in 2 days to pick up a pair of leaves for the can o' worms in Grass Valley, do a little catback exhaust Norcal TW Express for a member in Incline Village, and a hike in the Sierras.

Took off Friday 7/28 at 7:00am and made it up to Grass Valley in a reasonable amount of time with my German friend who wanted to roll along for the ride.

    upload_2023-8-19_11-27-57.png

Picked up the leaf springs and headed on to Tahoe. Dropped off the cat back there and had dinner at In'N'Out in Carson City. Met a nice guy that owned this motel in Bridgeport where we stayed for the night.

    upload_2023-8-19_11-35-14.png

Got to the parking lot around 10:30. Nice red 1st gen w/ a camper shell in the back there.

    upload_2023-8-19_11-37-9.png

Spent 4 hours or so getting up fighting being out of shape lol. Ate a short lunch and headed back down taking more time to take some pictures.
