Thanks. That's a good looking rig! I would have loved to find one completely rust free but this one is very good. It needs a little coating on the drivers side rocker panel but other than that it's 100x better than most of the super duties I've seen up this way. These trucks are getting harder and harder to find in good condition. Whats the "surgical tubing in weather stripping"? Is that to keep the noise down from the door seals?

 

Next job. If you've ever left your 7.3 out in the cold and went to start it and it shit's out oil all over the drivers side of the engine, then this fix is for you.

Step 1
Drain Oil and Coolant


Step 2
Remove this oily sloppy gooey thingamajig




step 3
Clean up thingamajigs and get new gaskets and seals






Step 4
Assemble thingamajig


Step 5
Clean up block real nice and good


Step 6
Reinstall thingamajig back in truck


Step 7
Refill coolant and oil, start truck and watch it billow out smoke and sputter for a few minutes while enjoying a cold beer knowing your truck has 1 less oil leak.

 

got a ways to go until the realllly fun part.

Yeah you pull tubing through the weather stripping and it cuts down the wind noise in the cab by a lot. It was kind of a pain in the ass with a fish tape but it made a big difference for me

 

Gotcha, one of these days might have to do that. For now between the turbo and exhaust I can't hear the door seals though, maybe my hearing is going out haha.

Damn truck spends more time on the lift then on the road. Figured I'd go with a new clutch as the old one was beat. Previous owner tells me it was replaced "not long ago", whatever that means.

Simple, easy, couple of bolts, what could go wrong?!

Old glowplugs are out, 3 of them on passenger side were open circuit and 2 on the driver side were loose at the valve cover harness, no wonder it never started in the winter


The exhaust manifold bolts are just a little rusty






Oil leaking like a bitch and looking like it's ready to give way to rust any second, a common problem on the factory pans for the 7.3s

I drilled and taped new manifold for EGT probe




Nice to see I had the upgraded ZF6 shift fork already installed

 

If you’re going to scrap them otherwise. I’d take the GTP38 and pedestal.
