This is a very well built piece. The only problem I had was I couldn't get the bolt out of the tailagte to install. I bent two separate torx bits trying to get it out. Finally gave up.

No You have to break into the cover first (its hard ) ask me how i know. then open the gate to remove it . So if you rarely leave your gate down or live in a really shitty place then NO

PS cool auto correct loxking (locking)

I do not have hard shell, nor cover, but I manually lock the tailgate with the physical key (I do not have power locking tailgate)
can the tailgate be stolen even it's locked?

Anything can be stolen. It is much more difficult if it is locked. And, it's possible to damage the locking mechanism to open the tailgate. But it takes time. Time is a thief's enemy.

You have to use a big breaker bar and go slow with a lot of torque.

So by locking it it makes the tailgate very unlikely to be targeted by thieves. Unless there are no easy unlocked tailgate to steal.
So OP's product is for those who:
    • do not have a built-in key locking mechanism tailgate
    • do not lock the tailgate
    I assume

If you're worried and don't want to pay for the device, you can also put a hose clamp in there as a deterrent.

A coworker has a backflip on a gmc, he forgot his key one day and was able to open it reasonably easy.

For people that steal stuff for a living, if they want it it’s gone.

Took me 10 to 15min to get in with out fucking it up, but they would not take it if it was more than a few min to steal it

Impact is the way to go, not a breaker bar. Small bolts will easily break especially if they have a funky head.

One of the old school impact drivers that you hit with a hammer works well, or a cordless if you can keep the speed down.....lastly whacking the head of the bolt with a brass drift or whatever you have and small ball peen hammer works well. Next to last try is heat.

All depends on their workload, the market and whatever else drives them.
I’m guessing they’re better versed in breaking into stuff than you?

Point is you’re claiming that it’s hard for you to break into your cover and tellIng someone not to worry.

    Well yes.
its probably faster to steal the whole truck the break into the back for just the gate.. and at that point, it doesn't matter much.

The gates get stolen in under 2 min, more like 1. too much effort for it if its locked up (probably)(i hope) just like your house , is it really that had to break a window when you're gone and steal your stuff if they want?
no matter what you do , if they want it bad enough..... it's gone...... the gate or the truck instead.

I think you could probably pop the plastic Bezel and bypass the lock super easy. But a hinge lock seems more difficult depending on style.

dont get me wrong. a hinge lock will slow them down, it all depends on how much and at what cost.

I would bet 1000$ that a tailgate with the sabeco (I forget spelling) tailgate lock has never been stolen.

Interesting. I've frequently (accidentally) left my whole truck unlocked with no ill affects.
