Was initially looking at either a 2014+ Sierra or Silverado, but ended up with a new '16 TRD Sport after test driving one. Just wondering if anyone on here owned a Full Size GM twin and ditched it for a new Tacoma. I test drove both GMs with the VVT 4.3 V6, and they were both regular cab short beds (I love the look of that configuration).

I like my Tacoma.....a lot. Well so far that is. I've been reading tons of stuff on here the past month. I bought back in March.
Pretty sure I'd really be second guessing my decision if I went for an AT after being on here.

Just for curiosity's sake. Why a full size of any configuration with the 4.3 V6? Motor was underpowered in the 90s when the trucks were small.

    That's solid advice.

The Sierra/Silverados seem really nice, it's just that I'm not a huge fan of 4 door trucks. I really liked the regular cab, but there is basically no behind the seat storage. The center console flips up to accommodate a third passenger as well.

Then I saw a CL ad for a 2012 Regular cab Tacoma with a bench seat that was 10 minutes away. I went and checked it out and after taking it for a drive really liked the idea of having a manual again (he was asking too much). That basically led me to go check out the new Tacomas. They ended up having a left-over (way left-over) 2016 TRD Sport MT in the showroom. Purchased it that week.

The 4.3 VVT is rated at 285 horsepower and 305 lb.-ft. of torque. It seemed like a good option for the reg cab short bed. If I went used I would have opted for the 5.3.
I was looking at leftover 2016s and the 4.3 was more in my price range.

I know it's not a Silverado/Sierra, but I had a full size '14 crew cab XLT F150. I traded for a 3rd Gen. Honestly I am very happy. I loved the truck, but I like the size of the Tacoma. Fit's in my garage a lot better.

a 6.2 in a reg cab short bed would be awesome...and probably 55K (if they made it).

    Different strokes.

I would get the F150 Screw long bed in a heartbeat. Garage fitment doesn't mean much to me, cars are for driving, not storing. ;)

I completely agree, however living in Eastern Nebraska, the risk of large hail is ever constant during spring/summer months. These last few years we've experienced everything from pea to softball size.

I had a 1986 Buick Regal T-Type in my early 20's. I was thinking of going GM Reg Cab short bed to regain some masculinity after driving VWs and Hondas the past 17 years.

Did you have any problems with your Silverado?

I had a 2011 GMC Sierra Denali, 6.2L with AWD for over 40k miles and just over 3 years. Only problem I had was keeping the gas tank full. FWIW I've heard the new 6.2L with 10 speed (or is it 8 speed?) trans are awesome! @Threerun traded his taco for one a while back and raves about it. I know you're not in the market for the 6.2L.

I imagine that had to be pretty awesome. There's something about the sound of a GM V8 that is undeniably cool. Coming from a VW TDI wagon, the TRD Sport is a total gas hog...haha.

Had a 2006 Silverado 4.8, 2012 5.3, and 2014 5.3. Should've held onto the 2006. Could not stand the transmission in the 2014 I absolutely hated it, but got 19mpg average and my best was 26mpg going 60MPH on two lane back roads for a couple hours or so the computer said. No problems with the 2006 in 150k, but the 2012 and 2014 had a few recalls.

Unless they have fixed the transmission I would stay away. Never had such a clunky transmission. Never was in the right gear and would wait a very long time to downshift. Surprisingly the transmission is what most complain about on this Tacoma, but it is a dream compared to what was in that Silverado.

BTW the new 4.3 is pretty solid in the single cab, had one as a loaner and it was a lot of fun.

    What's new about the 4.3?

    Serious question.

Supposedly everything, the only thing it shares with the previous 4.3 is the size. That is what I remember reading when I was looking at them anyway.
