Has anybody done a exhaust crossover reroute yet to allow for better ground clearance and fitting of skids on a 2016?

Some pics of my 2nd Gen exhaust reroute for skids:

looks like they welded a pipe that is closer to the transfer case maybe? no idea

Speaking of weld, the old exhaust fits the new trucks with a little cutting and welding. Bends are all the same

I had the opportunity to look a 2016 from beneath at a dealer. Still asking myself why they route the exhaust under the transfer case. There are a few options for a better route, either crossing before the transfer case, or route the entire exhaust on the other side. Who knows why they didn't, but the current route is the worst for clearance for sure.

potential idiot question, is there a reason why we should not split the exhaust and run it out either side? I know the gas tank is takes up a lot of space under the bed on the driver side, I assume that is why there is the crossover.

The rerouted crossover moves the exhust above the lower edge of the transmission crossmember, thereby allowing a flat belly skid fore-and-aft of the crossmember with better ground clearance than having to run beneath the stock location of the exhaust crossover. A common mod on 2nd Gen Tacomas with aftermarket skids.

Doublewall, to single wall, to doublewall. ID remains the same.

Toyota while redesigning the tacoma should have moved the fuel tank to the other side and avoid having to crossover the exhaust. Missed opportunity here I think.

Dual exhaust lines without a cross over is hard to carb in California
