I haven’t gone off-roading in it yet, but yeah, I agree there’s plenty of off-roading to be had without 4x4. I suspect I won’t ever off road anywhere difficult enough for 4x4

Daily driven 2WD in Houston, TX. We don’t get snow here but we do flood occasionally, so a higher ground clearance was my priority.

i had a 2020 2wd then it got totaled after being rear ended. got the same truck in 4wd 2021 model and i'm glad i did. i now have excuses to take it offroad. and it was useful to get unstuck when tires were spinning in 2wd. i wouldn't be able to go camping in some places without 4wd and it's always convenient in the snow.

    I have a '10 Sport 4x4 and a '22 OR 4x2. Went with this because:
    -I have 2 other 4x4's if I need one.
-I'm in South Ga. Off roading around here consists of mud and sand. All Terrain tires, a locked diff and velocity will get further than many full size 4x4's.
-I'm tires of replacing front axles and wheel bearings. Done it 3 times on the '10.
    -Better mileage.
-OR rides better and has locking diff.
    -It was cheaper and plentiful.

Any weird vibration issues lifting it? I know that’s usually only a problem with the 4x4 trucks and the front diff. I’ve kept my suspension stock just because I’m afraid of the potential headaches of vibration and bushing stuff

it is a conservative lift at <2” on all 4 corners. Similar to the OEM TRD lift. Had it aligned and it rides fine with no side effects as of yet!

2WD crew. It gets me exactly where I want it to. Been driving it around the country for a few years, always with the excuse to find good fields to camp in and the unpaved road with the better view. No regerts on my choice.

I live in the NE and I have never even seen a new 2WD for sale. Is there really a big money savings to go with 2WD?

this is why I went from Prerunner to 4x4. I put my old Prerunner through the paces, adding a rear locker made it night/day better but it was still very limited on the trails and the ones I wanted to do were far outside its abilities.

If there's any chance you'll get bit by the wheeling bug then get the 4x4. If not, then it's just going to be added maintenance for something you'll never use (in most of CA anyway). Places that get real winters would be a different story, but you hardly see 2wd trucks in those areas anyhow.

I paid $31,200 out the door for my new 2019 SR5 - did some serious negotiating. Mine is a daily driver and 95% on the highway and gets me to most places I want to go ...I live in Socal too. Its just a weekend warrior truck camper. That being said, I may add a locker depending how many miles I have on it when its paid off next year.

My case exactly, except I'm in SE FL. 2wd with auto LSD does just fine for my needs. Now when I lived in northern VT before moving down here, different story. Every truck or SUV I had for the 10 years I was there was a 4x4.

I have both, an 07 2wd and a 21 4wd. I say get a 4x4 if it’s only a few thousand more. Even though you don’t plan to off-road, I would get it. Every year I take the kids to snow play and witness many 2wd car struggles. We eventually make it to where we need to go, but struggle here and there. I’ve seen many 4x4 just with all terrain tires go thru fine without slipping. I’m not gonna debate about having dedicate snow tires.

The main appeal for me is that I don't need to worry about the 4WD parts going bad
crankshaft => transmission => propeller shaft => rear axle is all there is, and the U-joints are non-serviceable on 2WD so you can rest assured they'll last a long time

What do you mean the u-joints are non-serviceable? I’m unaware of this and confused how the rear driveshaft would be any different than the 4x4 rear driveshaft.
