I've started to model my Tacoma in CAD and was wondering if there's anyone out there that's done it? I've only done the bed interior so far today so that i can make some stuff to fit inside it but am looking to finish the whole truck. Where my CAD guys at??

    Here.

SolidWorks for the past 10 years, ProEngineer for the past 10 years, AutoCAD for about 15 years now. Got my CSWP in 2006 (Certified SolidWorks Professional) and was a CAD admin for one of my prior careers for 4 years handling all software and hardware support.

Everything we make at Mobtown is modeled in Solidworks. We use it to do deflection test or any FEA for that matter. Export all sheet metal flat patterns out to the CNC laser table. Transfer any tubing to Bendtech which is the software used for our tube bender.

Good luck finding models. The ones you do find are usually crude. The good ones cost $$$$. We look allll the time. Checkout 3D Content Central. Thousands of 3D models on there that can be exported for use.

yeah i took a look at 3D content central, but none are as detailed as im looking for. I think at this rate i'm better off modeling it myself haha, trying to get a full model that's to scale.

Solidworks is about 50% of my job. The other half is machining or building what I create. I love Solidworks!

You will never find an accurate model of a Tacoma, and Toyota is definitely never releasing one. Model it yourself for the parts you need.

I use Inventor daily and have been since 2008. Running Inventor 15 now but going to 16 soon. I really wish we'd go to Solidworks but talks have stalled to making the switch. I also modeled for years in regular AutoCad and I still use it on a daily basis. The bed is looking good so far.

Solidworks is probably more common but i'm not 100% sure on their software since i use Inventor, i hear they're very similar though. Inventor has a free trial you can download i believe, or if you're a student or know someone who is you can download the student version for free. what kind of stuff were you trying to model?

Solidworks is IMO the easiet to learn and the most wide spread software used in todays industry. Unfortunately it is not cheap. Cost us $4000 for the software plus $1300 per year per license.

I use Hypermesh with LS Dyna for FEA and then CATIA (I think this is Ford software?) and Siemens Teamcenter for CAD stuff. I don't do a lot of CAD work but I do sometimes have to mess with it to make the FE models. I do crash safety engineering at Ford.

Partially jealous. Ive always wanted to design cars for the big three but have no intentions on wanting to live in MI.
