Yeah I do miss that, really surprised no other truck company has copied it yet.

Glad to hear I wasn't the only one with the gas pump issue. I learned to pump until about $3 worth..take the hose out for a second, then put it back in to finish filling. Worked every time :rofl:That turn radius was rough as shit lol U-Turns sucked

Yea the cleats are better quality and lock in better. And the ones on the floor are amazing for thing anything down. Also a plus having the one on the front of the bed.

Good trucks just ugly. The off-road special version has some nice features but again, it's ugly. Inside and out.

I wouldn't trade my Tacoma for one unless I had to. Sooner go back to an older Chevy 1500 with the 5.3 engine from before all the cylinder shutoff bs. Find one with 90-100k old guy miles on it and just drive it.

And yes I used to drive one as a company/work truck. Nothing wrong with it.

I came from a 2015 Nissan Frontier SV. The only thing I liked better about it was the engine and transmission. Everything else was so outdated. It had a horrible turn radius as well. It did feel more torquey and would boogy off the line.

I had an 2008 Frontier SE crew Cab. I liked it and the engine had more torque than the even the 2nd gen Taco. I had to get rid of it because the radiator contaminated the transmission fluid and took out the Trans, the 2 rear catalytic converters died and finally a head gasket blew and diluted the engine oil with it. I had it sitting in my drive way for atleast a year. I gave it away to my dad and he got my uncle to rebuild the engine.

I bought a new Frontier in 2010. Toyota dealer wouldn't budge on price so I walked across the road and bought the Frontier for 26,500 out the door. It was a quad cab 4wd. Toyota wanted 33,000 for a base model 4wd. Nissan was a great truck I put 186,000 miles on it with no problems whatsoever. Replaced battery once and changed oil every 5,000 miles. Drove it for 8 years and bought the truck I always wanted. Love my Tacoma but for the money Frontier was great.

Just came from a 2013 double cab 4wd. Bought it with 30k and traded it at 120 never a single issue only thing was tires, fluid changes and a battery. Very good reliable truck just a bit dated on the interiors. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy one again. My only real complaint as a short person I hated the drivers seat. Really uncomfortable for me.

I agree with the 2nd gen mods, definitely more can be done, but I was referring to 1st gen 97-04.

Never had a frontier, test drive one. Own a 2007 Xterra 4x4 with same power train as the frontier. Love the 4.0 power. Has the auto trans but I replaced radiator way back to avoid smod. Will have it 13 years in December. Owned since new is key. Knowing history is key. I love my Xterra. I briefly thought about a frontier while shopping for a pickup but the front is ugly and they seem to sit lower than I like. To me, Tacoma looks and feels better. Maybe not as much oomph but that's not why I got the taco. Love my 19 or DC 4x4.

The first gen was kind of an odd duck. I get the vibe they were not as popular as the D21 they replaced

Rad. I posted that with openness to being proven wrong. Nice to see it exists! But man, that interior just does not look as nice or as modern as the Tacoma. That’s honestly not something I’ve ever put a lot of weight on, when choosing a vehicle, but there’s something to be said for amenities.

Definitely looks dated in the Frontier! If you want a Manual Pickup then your choices are pretty limited, just Tacoma, Frontier, and Gladiator.

I had a 12 PRO-4X, less money with way more options than a TRDOR. Really nice truck, will get a redesign next year which should drive the prices down further. Went back to a Toyota because I prefer Toyota, cant deny the $ reasons to go Frontier over Tacoma if you're not a fanboy like me. I will say every job I did on the Frontier was more difficult than the Toyota equivalent job.

I got a great deal in '17 on a leftover '16 Frontier Pro4X Crew Cab with the manual. Really nice truck. Had it for 6 months and got sick of shifting in daily stop and go traffic on my commute and traded it in on a '17 TRD Off Road with automatic and technology package. Love all of the additional features of the Tacoma and am enjoying it. I have had a Frontier for a rental car for the past week and am shocked at how much more enjoyable it's engine/auto transmission combo is around town vs. the Tacoma (daughters car is in the shop from an accident and she isn't old enough to drive a rental). Takes off from a stop and doesn't hunt around for gears when you ask it to go. Outward vision and seating position are also way better in the Frontier. That being said, still much happier with the Tacoma.

I'm honestly curious to see what they will unveil next year with the Frontiers, and if it'll be enough to keep them selling.

The Frontier is a good truck. There, I said it, and it doesn't make me a blasphemous Tacoma owner either. Why else is it selling still a decade and a half in?

All the publications (Motor Trend, Consumer Reports, Car and Driver et al) dog the Frontier because it dares to exist in all its mid-2000's glory. Screw that lazy reporting. It's a worthy truck from when trucks were still trucks.

I wouldn't trade my Tacoma for one but hey. If it makes you happy. People who own them seem to like them, but in less of a cult-like fashion.
