Actually ran an amortization table and in fact it would be $529,491 at that point in time. However, it's all fun and games until the stock market crashes and your $530k ends up being $200k while inflation makes it effectively 50k, after all you did was sit at home and save for the inevitable time the cancer takes us all.

And what do you drive for those 20 years? Or do you just walk until you can't anymore?

Not a fan of the new Tundra but I'll admit I have been considering the F150 Tremor in a few years.

There is definitely risk in investing. You could lose some money, where with cars, you will definitely lose your money. True that markets crash, the US market has also always come back. Not saying it will every time, especially now that we are talking about unrealized capital gains tax, lifting the requirement for banks to back their credit at all, and a worthless trillion dollar coin...In your scenario, you still have more than you would have if you had kept car payments instead.

I'm not saying people should walk everywhere. I don't think financial planning and "living life" are mutually exclusive. Just trying to put some vivid numerical consequences to what car payments actually cost you. I blew more on cars and bikes early in life than I care to think about. None of it enhanced my life in any meaningful way except that I kept getting a newer better thing. Just trying to save anyone else the same painful lesson.

Agree with everything you said. Was just trying to provide the perspective that "always saving" every penny will likely not end well and life will be lived without joy.

That said there are reasonable amounts. I.E Transportation shouldn't exceed 10% of your gross income. If it does, you may want to re-examine that.

Cost is not simply a monthly payment either. Fuel + Taxes/registration fees + depreciation + mods.

I'd still take a Raptor at the price point (used even) or a nice F150

For sure. You've got to enjoy life, too. No one is suggesting that you eat pancakes for every meal so you can get every cent into your IRA (I prefer sardines anyway). It's all a balancing act. Staying in car payments is not a great balance...it's just status quo. What do you really gain for such a huge sacrifice? (Rhetorical question not necessarily aimed at you)

I checked my numbers and it’s close to that for last year if not higher… but that’s an anomaly… thinking it’s more like 5-8%

Same, just went from a 19 pro taco to a 21 6mo ago and lost practically nothing... I'll upgrade again when they redo the Tacoma's
Great video and as much as people wanted a V8 I think I like the electric eliminating turbo lag... curious to see what a Stage II of this can do. Still, can't get one cuz it won't fit my garage lol.

My lower performing account did 17% for CY2020, and that was one of the worst years in the prior 5. All high risk stuff though.

Year to date, my portfolio is up 11.5%. However, for my planning, I always plug in 5-7% if I want to see what I’ll have after X years.

To answer the initial question of this forum: "Any 3rd Gen Tacoma owners entertaining a 2022 Tundra?"

Yes. I am. I am curious about the 22 Tundra and will definitely look at it. I am currently in a 2020 TRD OR. Love it. But space is tight for a growing family (kid growing like Bigfoot and two dogs, etc.). So I am entertaining it as much as that means going to look at it, sit in it, etc. Try it on for size and maybe give it a test run. Can't say I will buy one -- but can't say that I won't upgrade, either. I want to see it in person and then see how it fits before making any decision.

Also, I don't get too hung up on the looks. That's because I am a bad judge of armchair judging. I've seen a lot of cars on line that looked great and then I didn't like them when I saw them in person and vice versa.

So, yes, entertaining. But no firm thoughts just yet. I will say I am looking forward to checking it out, though. With an open mind. But maybe that just me. I like to see things up close before I decide.

I was. But all the hype and peekaboo games played by toyota really turned me off. You'd think they were releasing a truck to revolutionize the world. Instead they release a somewhat disappointing truck with nothing new to offer. Barely inched out the numbers offered by Ford in 2015. I decided to keep my tacoma and supercharge it instead. I'll keep an eye on it and revisit in 2-3 years.

Nope, the new Tundra still won't fit in my garage. My DCSB only has about a foot to spare.

I entertained the new tundra. Not long. Traded my 2020 AG 4runner Pro in 21 tundra pro LunaRock. Wanted the last year with the V8. Had a lot of tacomas over the years. Sometimes I think about flipping it. Don’t drive it much because I use my beater car for work to keep miles off of it.
I could sell it for a lot more than the msrp I paid. I don’t like payments so I don’t have any. Also that new tundra msrp is going to be a lot higher. And customers are going to pay if they want one.

I think it might be worthwhile to try out an aftermarket ecu tune for $300ish before deciding on a $6,000ish supercharger.

The V8 Tundras are sweet. I have driven my brothers Tundra around numerous times. You barely touch the gas pedal and you are off. The 5.7L engine just loafs along and the exhaust emits a great V8 rumble. The AT shifts very smooth and it doesn’t hunt around for gears like my Tacoma. The only complaint my brother has is the rather dismal fuel mileage.

Yes, I will be getting the new 2022 Tundra. I can't wait, so I am getting a 4x4 Sport first to start tuning, then in March 2022 I will trade it for a Pro. I am first on my Dealership's list.
Black is the color for me--to help hide the large grille.
Keeping my Tacoma for my son. It is 6 years old now and paid for.

Was going to trade my 2010 Tundra for a 2022 but I just can't bring myself to drive such an eyesore of a truck. Maybe it'll grow on me but I highly doubt it. The front end alone makes me want to hurl. Probably wait till the next gen and keep driving my flawless 2010
