Well EPA is based on pretty light throttle application and easy driving. Plus, every mfg tunes their mapping and trans shift points to the test. Now once you start smashing the ECT power button and flooring the gas, that big truck with turbos is gonna start chugging fuel. Same with the ecoboost fords. MPG is good as long as you keep your foot out of it.

Fuelly has the Powerboost (hybrid) F150 at 20 average. Ford rates it at 24... Probably similar on the Tundra.

should be. Similar weight, gears, displacement, aero. You can only twist physics so far.

^^^That's the beauty of a turbo; keep your foot out of the turbo boost and get decent fuel economy, or mash the throttle when you want the acceleration and when you don't care about fuel economy.

I apologize if someone has already posted this -- I must have missed it. But I thought this was a pretty insightful look at the new Tundra from the folks at Jalopnik. Maybe I don't know anything, which is very possible, but I like those guys -- don't always agree with them (and that is okay) but I always find them worth a read and with an honest assessment.

No. Have that tshirt already. Came down from a 2500hd Duramax/Allison. Love my my taco and all it’s simplicity. Will be living vicariously through you guys that do swap. I have an account on the tundra forum so will be observing and taking notes. Not saying never, just not now.

Currently I have no use for one, but in a year or two I'll need something to tow my 3rd gen around and the girlfriend also wants something to pull small horse trailer. Think we will get a new Tundra, as it looks great both in and out, and the girlfriend and I are die hard Toyota people. Also wouldn't mind her having a bigger, safer rig than her Fj since she works on the mountain pass/drives in the snow with a bunch of Seattllites.

Some of the reviews l was watching today said the new Tundra has a smaller cab and smaller fuel tank than before. I am guessing since the platform is going to be used for multiple models including the Tacoma that the fuel tank will be the same across the board.

No. Even a midsize is overkill for me. Zero plans to have any big toys to tow around.

    I'm liking the 2dr, 2.0T Wrangler.

Yes, I’m entertaining a ’22 Tundra hybrid SR5 with no hesitation or worries about 1yr jinks and fairy tales. So long as it has TOYOTA name on it, It’s proven and GTG.

I should add that its not that there’s anything wrong or don’t like about my ’16, quite the opposite. I’m just thinking that with a higher payload I could put a truck camper on top when needed and leave it home when not and not worry about the campsites being filled or taken up by the RV’s.

With a just under 2k lbs payload it has to be a super lightweight camper. You might be better off towing a travel trailer. I wish Toyota made a 1 Ton Tundra.

And I wish TOYOTA made a 1 ton tacoma like they did back in the day when they actually had a camper made on to it lol

I remember these things, also remember some Toyota based U-Hauls that were probably based on this same platform.

Not sure, but I know that you could get them in 1 Ton with dully wheels. I had a 1/2 ton with the 22R indestructible engine

    Wow haha!

So they came with 2.4L or 3L engines. I can’t even imagine 3.0, but 2.4??? Can definitely take a nap doing 0-60.

Yes, it had 2655 payload and could tow 5k. Impressive.
