I'm looking closely at the new Tundra, despite only having my Tacoma for about 15 months. Lets say, you're a Tacoma owner and it's time for a new truck. The as yet unreleased "new" Tacoma will likely be a forced induction 4-banger with similar dimensions and capacities (maybe a bit more towing, but who knows) as the current, possibly with a coil rear suspension like the Tundra with similar other upgrades. However, you, the Tacoma owner wants a bit more power and the ability to tow a bit more. Maybe you want something a bit roomier. I'm anxiously awaiting comprehensive specs on the Tundra, but the SR has piqued my curiosity. The SR version of the 3.5 has about 70 hp and 135 lb/ft more torque than the Tacoma and is tow-rated for about 2000 lbs more. . If Toyota can keep the weight and price down, and depending on the amenity level and available options (That air suspension is intriguing) I, for one, would be interested. Otherwise, I'd be interested in the SR5 spec double cab (The back seat area *can't* be any tighter than a 3rd gen Taco Double cab) with the 6.5' box.

3 months ago traded my 115K mile rusted up 2010 Tundra for my 2018 Taco Sport with 16K miles...
    • I legit miss the bed size - frequently - and it is frustrating.
    • I LOVE the freaking fuel economy by comparison... like Tundra was around 11-13mpg mixed, this thing is like 23 mixed... no cool looking off road tires on the Taco tho, so that helps the MPGs.
    • Liked the fact I got $18K for the Tundra in trade and the Taco was only $37K - in this market - and the Tundra was not gonna make it through this winter with out a full brake system do over - pins fused to calipers kind of bad - about $6K in parts using OEM...
    • I have a $100 deposit on a F150 Lightning but seriously doubt I'll get an allocation this fall, another reason why I sent the Tundra away
    • I do like the smaller size for parking and general tooling around - it's like a jet ski vs a tanker...
    • IMHO Toyota quality (judging the 2018 vs the 2001) has slipped a little so would need to see a new gen Tundra in person anyhow
    • Owning a Taco is a bucket list for me. when I was a kid I wanted one - at 47 got one - yea me!
    • It's legit a mini-truck... and I knew that - and I like it - but I'm not gonna be a "Taco forever" guy, I just use the truck part of fullsize way too much and thought I'd be able to make the Taco work... and I can - but it's frustrating and slow and multiple trips when it could / should be one
    • While the new Tundra sounds cool on paper - I'm guessing this Taco will be my last ICE vehicle as a daily driver (but nobody is gonna pry the keys of my GT500 out of my hands, those dinosaurs died and became petrol for a reason!)
So to answer the question of the OP - no - it looks cool, sounds cool on paper but for the price tag... I'll hold my Taco for several years until the full sized EV truck market actually exists with vehicles out there - and then make a decision... I know the Taco will last me an easy 5 years no problems!

Not a 22 but maybe 23… not really a fan of full sized trucks or one that looks boxy like a Silverado. But I guess that’s the full size looks nowadays. The hybrid and that power is a bit intriguing.

Any new-news on new Tundra? I guess there's nothing that hasn't already been announced, and nodody has one yet.

That large brake light makes me nervous, given the issues with the 3rd gen DC brake light. I think it looks cool.

I see GMC has a hands free steering mode on the Sierra cruise control. That looks like a dumb feature. 1. Who would want that? 2. Who would be impressed by that dumb system? You don't need that. I could live with it, if it was on a truck I was driving. I would not want to use it. The system is encouraging people to stop using the steering wheel, and partake in activities that are considered distracted driving. Instead of paying attention, and driving responsibly.

I WAS entertaining selling my 2010 Tundra and getting a 2022 and have been eagerly awaiting the new generation of Tundra for the past few years but unfortunately Toyotas styling has jumped ship. I mean what an ugly ass red-headed step child the new Tundra is. Its flat hideous! Its a hard pass for me. l be waiting for the next generation of Tundra and happily keep what I've got 20190111_151510.jpg

Mpg is in fact not cracking 20, average. And it seems to not have as much performance as one would expect.

Anyone have any preliminary on mpg on the hybrid? I haven't seen/heard any by those that have road test it, but I'm hoping for 24-27 combined

I think the F150 Hybrid is 25 so l would expect the Tundra should equal it.

Yeah, they didn't pick up on your hints. And they insist I'm wrong too when all they have to do is google it. Perhaps they are just future Ridgeline owners in the making.

If it actually gets 20 MPGs average, that would be a huge disappointment.
