Prices I have found range from about $350.00 to around $550.00. Its a pricey peice of steel. Keep in mind, it has to be welded into place, as the OEM one was.

Glad to see that there was a well thought out and logical debate taking place without blowing up. This is a great thread.

I'm on the 6" side. I definitely think that clearance is more important between the front and rear axles than the actual hieght of the front diff off the ground. although it is a plus to get that diff up, it is not going to help you THAT much when wheeling compared to how much the clearance in the middle of your truck is going to help you. A 3" lift will "highcenter" before a 6" will and that is usually what gets poeple out there on the trail (depending on the terrain).

Admittedly though a rock can snag a diff without your tires ever being able to make contact with it due to its shape. i just think there is more chance of highcentering than snagging an obstacle with my diff if im taking my obstacles at the proper angle. Plus i am keeping my front working parts at OEM specs. and besides, like it has already been stated, your diff could be 3 feet off the ground, it isnt going to matter....your only as tall as your weakest link...the rear diff. (if you measuring hieght due to diff height and not the center of the truck). you may have saved your front diff but your rear diff is gonna get smacked! :)

In the end it is to each his own, but if you take driver error and skill out of the equation and a robot drives:D, then the 6" is going to be able to take a taller obstacle and will get stuck less often.

It all just depends on how often and where you like to wheel, and what else you use your truck for.

just my $.02 if its really worth that much:rolleyes:

Honestly I think most people that knock the DB are in the dark about it. Everyone that I have spoken to that has it LOVES it. Most people wont admit the other is better and vice versa. I understand that. I have the 3in and want to go 6in. Looks better (3in guys have to admit 6in looks better), drives better(factory geomentry), and will do what "I" want offroad. Hardcore offroader I am not.

Also if you have the drop bracket and want to go back stock you can and weld the stock bracket back "stronger" than it originally was.

I need to correct that post. After researching I dont think it is possible to do without the Icon 6" coilovers. Sounded good though.

Ha ha, I'm sort of in the exact opposite boat/camp: I think the 3" actually looks better, it has a more 'balanced' appearance to me. But I think that the 6" will work out to be the way I go because it would seem that it WILL be better off-road…

Funny. I see both versions driving around, and the 6" to me just doesn't look as good. If only the 3" WAS actually better… :( save me some money & get me some better looks.

And of course, when I DO finally get my lift sometime next year (new appliances have to be paid off first; priorities!), I have to equip it with the proper bumper sticker, right? : "Lift it. Fat girls can't jump."

Yeah exactly what I was getting at; yes airspace in the front is a plus, but not as big a plus — simply not as important — as the inches between the axles.

Yes, exactly! Your back follows your front, what good is it that you can fit "it" (log, rock, Will Ferrell's disfigured carcass…) through the airspace inbetween the front tires, if you STILL can't fit it through the solid axle in the rear that's a-comin'?

What's been going through my mind about the affair lately isn't quite "which is better," as much as "which is a better value." I'm about 90% convinced that the 6" will be the bee's knee's in terms of performance, but then I look at the price tag: a few extra $K's. Yes it's better, but is it TWO-GRAND better?

That part I think will take more convincing. I don't wheel every day, but because of my work schedule, I also don't really ever wheel WITH ANYBODY. Our truck is a purpose truck: We like to get ourselves and our 3 large dogs out into nature, removed, and have fun, and the truck gets everyone and everything there. But what if I come across something that prevents me from getting back if I had "ONLY" 3" of lift? then I have to have someone come and rescue me from god-knows-how-deep-in-the-god-knows-what? How much would THAT cost?

Then suddenly a couple grand seems like good insurance. At least that's how I am sellin' it to the little woman. Think she'll buy it? :D

I say good luck and God speed with the lady. just let her know it makes you happy. you have to guilt her into allowing. thats how i got the fabtech lift, tires and wheels all in one shot. in January im getting the bumper winch and sliders:) she hates my truck but knows it makes me happy. guilt works every time. just never deny her, her happiness.

    :D

She's a good sport. She knows it makes me happy, plus since she's going along with me for the rides, she doesn't want to get stuck either! We've been close in some A/T's a little too close to a river or two on a few occasions. River muck SUCKS, I've learnt my lesson on that: M/T's from now on.

Anyway, I kid. She's an easy sell, she reasons well. I actually keep trying to talk myself out of spending the money on it and just going 3" to save some $$. But Better's better, and like I was sayin', a few grand up front isn't all that much in the long run. Seems like a lot, but I plan to keep the truck a long long time, and a few extra to get the most of it for years to come? Probably a good investment in the long run.

PS: What bumper are you going with? I just learned a few posts back that the allpro will not mate up with the Fabtech? I want an all-pro or very similar myself when the time comes.

hmmm.... at tacoberwest i talked with the Allpro guy there and he never said anythingabout it not working for my truck and lift???? I did find a custom fab guy here in Fallbrook and was going to see if he could do it for less...

is this true, Allpro bumper will not fit the Fabtech lift? i heard skids are a problem but not a bumper.
