How difficult is it to R&R the vsv ( for the egr, at the intake manifold.

I have been getting the P0402 TDC, turning on when cold. I can reset and it will only turn on when cold.

I had a smog technician I know check the system, said egr is fine, the upper vacuum diaphragm is fine, temp sender working correctly .

he said I need to replace the VSV.

I was visiting family 130 miles away, do I will need to purchase and replace myself.

    just seeing if and tips...

    thanks

I’ve heard that it was hard to get reach and had the concerns that you do. After testing everything else and narrowing it down to the vsv, I purchased a replacement part just in case because I had to take it out to test it. It failed. It wasn’t bad to reach. Just make sure you don’t drop the little screw that holds it to the bracket like I did. Good luck! Let me know how it turns out

I find it easier to come in from the driver's side, in between the intake runners, with a ratchet and extension to unbolt the bracket that holds the VSV. Then you can tackles the crappy little JIS screw on the bench.

Happened to look at the intake today, and noticed it looks pretty accessible coming in the front (I thought I had to go over the top and down the back of the intake, near the firewall)... I could easily see it "inside" the intake runners... Might be a pain to R&R the vacuum hoses.

Ordered a new Aisin brand part yesterday for $42. I hope that solves the issue.
