Any advice? Tires are rubbing against UCA.

I have not. I plan to do so after I work on the rear suspension.

Thank you for everyone's input in this. Going forward with my options, I will choose to get aftermarket UCAs. What are some reputable UCAs I should get with my setup?

I'm not sure UCAs alone will fix that rubbing issue. The problem is the wheels.

If you need UCAs for alignment reasons, they're still a good thing to add. I'd go with SPCs.

So pretty much everyone tells you it's your wheels/backspacing, and you decide to go with UCAs.

    Got it. o_O

As @Squeaky Penguin said, I'm not entirely sure UCAs would even fix your problem. Some have a lower profile at the ball joint area, but not all. And it's usually the expensive uniball ones.

Again, the main issue is the backspacing of your wheels. As I said in my previous post, my 265/75's rubbed the frame at full lock. Again, that was with stock wheels. Your wheel setup puts the tires even closer to the frame (and obviously closer to the UCAs too).

So have you checked for tire clearance anywhere else? Jack the truck up, remove the coilover, and use a jack to cycle the suspension all the way up and down as you turn the steering all the way left and right.

I ended up with total chaos UCAs, but for different reasons (mostly "because I can" lol), but that also altered the geometry (after an alignment) enough so my tires no longer rub the frame, but barely.

Don’t think the JBAs are as pointy as the OEMs. Not sure they will fix your issue either by themselves though, as others have said.

Here’s a pic of my truck with 265/75/16 tires. Granted they are mounted on 3rd gen TRD OR wheels. I don’t have much clearance and I admit, I have slight rubbing at full lock but it’s not an issue. Cranking the wheel all the way is to be avoided anyways. You don’t wanna hear the PS pump bog down.

Adding to the echo chamber... :bananadead:

Getting new wheels with better backspacing will offer the most improvement for the tire rub.

2nd Gen Tacoma wheels are apparently notorious for poor backspacing from what I've read elsewhere here on TW.

I don't know if "poor" is the right way to describe it. The backspacing is perfectly fine for the right application (like on a 2nd gen)

But yeah, it's "not ideal" when swapping them to a 1st gen because of the different suspension geometries. People just do it for the looks, and most don't mind the issues they create.

That's good to know, those do look lower profile than the stock ones. I think the 3rd gen wheels have the same backspacing as the 2nd gen ones. Where is this "slight rubbing" you talk of? Fender, frame, or on the UCA?

The problem is during wheel articulation. At droop the wheel will got closer to the UCA. That's why I suggest removing the coilover and cycling the wheel trough it's entire travel and turning lock to lock to check for clearance.

And you shouldn't be afraid to turn all the way to the locks. That's not going to kill the PS.

I have minor rubbing on the frame rails at the backs of each tire, only at full lock. Tight parking lot turns are the only time I get reminded of it.

Get total chaos UCAs and play the game with your family where you try to match a popular song to the squeaks coming from the uniballs, lol.

Yeah, sounds like the rubbing I had.

These trucks need all the help they can get with their turning radius. I tend to hit my turning stops quite often.

    My frame looked like this:

Go with wider spacers or change the offset of your rims

Everyone’s probably mentioned your options. But spacers would be your cheapest solution.

I agree with the backspacing issue. I just added a similar set up to my 98 xtra cab 4x4. Upgraded from stock 31's on 15x7 with 15mm offset to 265/75/16 Cooper Evolution M/T's on 16x7 w/ 25mm offset (wheels came from a 3rd Gen Off Road). The difference in offset pushed the wheel closer to the UCA which was causing some rubbing issues. I ended up doing a 3" lift with Bilstein 5100 , OME 881 coils, AAL, and alignment. Now everything clears easily, no issues.
