Any back seat mods for a flat cargo-carrying area in double cabs?

A couple people did that with gen-3, and the seat backs were already close with no additional mods.
Or is that not possible anymore with the 4th gen and any rear seat cargo just has to ride on the seats in their regular position?

 

If you don’t need the backseat, pull it and build a platform. Added the upper back seat on after this photo to retain the rear storage compartments. Less than $100 for this.

 

Thanks for that. So I take it you didn't see any practical way to fold the seat backs down and end up with a flat platform on top of that? If I remember correctly, the seat backs don't fold very close to flat. I'd need to leave the seats in.

 

Loved the 2nd gen folding back seats. I’m not sure why they even changed.

 

taking a different approach, the size Medium of this has 3 hard bottom inserts that make it a pretty rigid "deck". It's a perfect fit from the rear seat to the back of the center console (you'd think it was custom made for the '24 Tacoma honestly). It's the perfect width and depth of the rear bench area.

I honestly had no need for the backseat. My dog is too big to stand up straight on the seat and heavy enough to tear it up.

 

The seats lift up to near vertical, but now you've lost another ~8 inches of width in the space. Personally I wanted to keep the seats in place so that they can be easily used by guests and 3rd+ travelers when needed. But for me, the most common rear passenger is a large four legged one who enjoys having a space they can sit, walk, and lie down on while harnessed in, while not having to fall off the front of the seat. it also provides me two "storage cubbies" (if you will) of the floor space on each side under the platform, which cannot be seen or accessed without having the rear door open (or lifting the cover up if nothing is on top). The 4 legged passenger just clears the ceiling with everything in place and has no issue jumping up into their space and standing or sitting.
