Any Bay Area frame rust issues?

'13 DC Prerunner TRD Off-Road

My brother lives on the coast near Half Moon Bay and his 07' Tacoma's frame is a mess. Completely rusted over. The handle on his camper shell is so bad it doesnt even lock anymore.

Anyone else in the Bay Area have issues like this? I have a feeling he wouldn't get any help from Toyota, as California isn't in the East Coast "salt belt". Kind of ridiculous. Salt water/air eats through stuff here as well. I live in the East Bay so I am hoping my 13' fares a little better. We shall see.
