Anyone have recommendations for an electric kettle with selectable temperature? Trying to decide between the Bonavita and Hario

I have a Bonavita electric kettle, and it works really well.

The only small gripe I have is that if you hit the "temperature hold" button, it will only hold that temp as long as the kettle is on the base. Once you lift it off the base to pour, then set it back down on the base, you must hit the "temp hold" button again. But other than that, it's an excellent kettle.

I've had mine for a couple years, and it still works great.

I haven't seen the Hario electric kettle, so I have no idea how well that works. If I had to venture a guess based on the manufacturer (Hario), it's probably pretty darn good too.

Small batch roaster just across the border from me. Call them in the morning and they roast it then for pickup later in the day. Vienna roast of Sumatran had been my go to for my Gaggia classic pro

Slightly off topic, but I just picked up a massive Bunn G1 grinder to use at home. I plan on turning it into a mini-bunnzilla, but it won't be for a while so I'll update once I do it.

Any of you guys brew with the v60? I've been using one for years but recently started messing with my grind and I think I ruined it. What size grind are you guys using for the v60?

I do use a V60, but I have a hand grinder. Can't give you an accurate size because it doesn't have settings. I generally grind it the same size that I use in my drip coffee machine.

I bought a new Hario device recently, a Hario Switch. It's a pour-over device that will hold water until you "flip the switch." It's sort of a cross between a traditional pour over device, and a French press. Most people "wet" their coffee before starting the pour-over. This allows you to thoroughly soak the coffee before doing the pour-over.

SWITCH Immersion Dripper 02 – Hario USA (hario-usa.com)

If I had to give it a performance grade, would say the coffee is about 10% better with this than a traditional V60. It's not a huge difference, but it does taste a little better.

My Technivorm has a "switch" also. I like that feature, and use it as you do.
I turn off the machine during the bloom ........ sometimes.

That's a bit much LOL, but I like the idea. I allow my grind to 'bloom' by pouring just enough water to cover the spread, then go for broke and
pour more to drip on down. Gawd I do love this sh*t sometimes I go to bed early so I can hurry up and wake up for a fresh brew.

This is me, coffee is literally the reason I get up in the morning
There is some saying, I forget how it goes exactly but something along the lines of " The best part of going to sleep is knowing there is coffee on the other side"..

I like to get out for a morning 3+ mile walk or run. My payoff is coffee as soon as I make it back. I don't drink any before I go to ruin the incentive to finish as quickly as possible...lol

Mrs. wanted this Breville... it auto-sizes the correct amount of grind.

it's been a nice change from drip ... but as with most things in life, it's hard for she and I to agree on a bean that we both like

    @jon_elc

Just unboxed this Breville Express - no idea why the wife wanted it ... I'm happy with pour-over.
I roast my own beans and she buys Peets.

After a few tries we got a few good shots come through and my roasted beans were better in this machine than the peets.
Apparently the really dark (oily) roasts interfere with the drip.

It's a sophisticated machine for sure - trick for me was getting the proper amount of beans ( 16 grams ) and the grind level (3) just right
in order for the pressure to behave in the proper zone.

I do love my coffee LOL ...

I’ve got the same one, my buddy as well. Works great once you get your grind dialed in. For the price it’s a solid machine.
