Of course! That was my point regarding VVT :) Dynamically it changes combustion pressures.

We are on page 5, talking about Turbos and Compression Ratios.
And nobody has asked if the timing cover will leak?
Let's start with the "simple" stuff first.

I've had my 2024 Tacoma Sport for exactly 1 month now. With the inline 4 and single sushi slicer, I do NOT miss the old V6 / 6speed auto of my old 3rd gen at all. The 4 banger has enough power and plenty of torque. I'm still impressed with this truck! 20240207_092338.jpg

But people here said the turbo engine is a ticking time bomb and will die when you pull it off the dealer lot. Looks like your got her to a parking spot....whew! :p

I want an Explorer ST so bad, but they get such a bad rap reliability-wise.

Let me elaborate a little bit on what you're saying here.

Turbo motors need to be able to handle those increased forces and their more complicated components need to remain lubricated in order to prevent excessive wear. Toyota came out and admitted that moving everything over to the TNGA shared architecture is a cost savings initiative. It is saving them money. So we are basically all crossing our fingers and hoping that Toyota took some of that savings and applied it to RND to ensure that this more complicated system (that they are putting in the new Land Cruiser, Tacoma, Highlander, Grand Highlander, and a few Lexus products) is well thought out and reliable.

For several great reasons, you will see, across many manufacturers, the dawning of the age of 4 and 6 cylinder engines that are:
    1. About 0.5 liters per cylinder
    2. Turbo charged maybe some supercharged
    3. All electrical fuel, oil, water, power steering, etc pumps
    4. Direct Injection or 70/30 Direct and Port
    5. Variable Valve Timing

This is going to be the new standard for IC engines. The devil will be in the details of how all manufacturers basically start making the same engine but then try to differentiate themselves.

Every engine Toyota makes has leaked from the cover, its a matter of, how hard is this one to reseal.

Surprised no one has said it yet...

T24 tacoma has 2 timing covers.

    BUT

They are much easier to remove, the cover doesnt require the lower pan to be removed.

Are you able pull a diagram of the covers up @TnShooter ?

Here’s my comment. The new engine will be fine and the 4th Gen owners will enjoy the improved torque. It may take a year or two for the new model kinks to be worked out though.

Cool truck. But it's been a month tho so time will tell. If I were you I would've kept the V6, you might be missing it if the new one is in the shop. I read there's half a dozen fixes they're doing before releasing the QC hold.

It’s also helps with low octane fuel. High compression engines thrive on high octane. The 2GR-FE responds all the way up to 96 octane or so, even stock. Particularly in hot weather. To my knowledge compression ratio is static never changes. VVTI is about timing not changing the compression.

Time will tell for sure. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a recall or two as well. So far so good.....
