I drive S mode, with ECT if pulling camper. The quick up shifts on the highway bug me but put it in D when I jump on. Back to S when off. Going to tune shortly.

What is the TSB? What is actually done? Are there any other TSBs available for 3rd gen Tacos?

FYI you're quoting three year old posts, so if your truck has been to the dealer in between then and now, there's a good chance this has been addressed.
You could take your truck to your local dealer and inquire about TSB's. Keep in mind, many dealers will look for TSBs pertaining specifically to customer complaints. It's common dealers will not just update all of them randomly for free, without any reported, and confirmed symptoms, based on what customer read on the internet.

Question for those who drive in ECT often like me: at what speed does your truck shift from 3rd to 4th w/ECT on? My truck will not shift no matter how I drive it from 3rd to 4th until 57km/h (35mph) seems a little late and makes the truck pretty jerky at city road speeds (50km/h limits usually) (Stock 2018 Access cab TRD OR V6)

I like ECT on the highway, but around my house I prefer it off. At 30 mph my truck can't find the right gear with ECT on.

I’ve had my truck for 650 miles, hated the first 550 miles, read up in the forum and started using the ect button.

Enjoyed the last 100 miles with ect and shifting into s4 sometimes.

Live in LA with constant stop and go, sometimes needs a little quick burst on the freeway to pass.

Ect button makes the truck much less sluggish... and enjoyable.

Ect ruins gas mileage. If you don’t care then you dont care but that’s been my experience. If you are going up hill and gas mileage is going down anyways plus the incline is great enough to make it hard to maintain highway speed, ect is perfect. There’s some use for it off roading too, especially using sport mode and going down to 2nd gear in 4l for maximizing potential if need be.
Another use that doesn’t always work for me but does sometimes is ect helps eith engine breaking down hill, then again so does sport mode

I found this thread because my truck STILL pisses me off and I just turned 30,000 yesterday...if I could get my hands on the Japanese Engineer who put this transmission mapping on my truck it would be a bad day for that engineer...this is the stupidest driving vehicle I've ever encountered and somehow I bought it...mostly because I didn't notice it and I was barely allowed to test drive it...I just can't for the life of me figure out why the factory thought it would be a good idea to put the same shift points on the truck that you would find in a V8 truck that has nice low end torque which we all know these trucks DO NOT have...I needed this to be a 10 year truck and I'm sure mechanical it could reach that easy if don't drive it off a cliff first or trade it in on the new Ford Bronco which I really can't afford to do...at this point I tell myself look it starts everyday and my dog loves ridding in the bed...I almost bought a Power Commander but then I said NO I shouldn't have to pay $300 to make it drive as it already should...instead I just give the damn thing gas before I even start my turn so that it's actually doing something by the time my turn is completed.

The newest ECU update solved these issues for me, drives like a whole new truck.

Go do that first then see how your taco treats you

I'm happy the my 2020 auto behaves, truck has plenty of power, and is always in the right gear never hunting. Its very similar to my old 2001 tundra 4speed auto, just with more overdrive ability....still i keep reading how bad these transmissions work...it just blows my mind what the hell these guys are complaining about.

It is not a placebo effect. ECT doesn’t provide any more power hence no change on 0-60 times with the pedal floored. What ECT does is change the points at which the gears shift during normal driving to a higher rpm, try it yourself and you will see. It also may increase the throttle response to be more aggressive but I haven’t tested to confirm. But it’s definitely not a “placebo effect” it’s real and demonstrable.

I think it’s better to learn to modulate your throttle pedal better, on the standard mode, than rely on ECT. The truck actually drives better, and the engine seems happier, if you simply fuel it properly using your foot.

In an ideal world, Toyota wouldn’t make a truck that requires so much thought, but once you get your muscle memory right, the truck drives fine without ECT on. I find with ECT on (when not towing) the truck holds gears too long and buzzes around at unnecessarily high RPM.

Read this and take the time to get the service. It requires a little effort but the results will make you a happier tiny trucker. Don't take my word for it. Read here for testimony that will set you free. No more STILL pisses me off days.

I had my 2018 flashed and it runs like a well-oiled Singer sewing machine.

I love the ect I forget about it from time to time which is great because it’s a huge difference when I remember to activate it.
