If the “I don’t want to have to push a button with my finger” mod is your best mod ever you need to do more mods :D

Like some have noted, ECT for city driving makes it enjoyable. Not much pedal movement to get going.

Agreed. I think of it like the 'close door' button in an elevator. You push it to feel good, but it really does nothing.

If you watch the shift points on the Tach, it's clearly not a placebo.

    YES!
the only way to settle this, get 2 tacomas, same year, 3.5 and race! one with ECT on and the other off. i would be looking for does the ECT one get out front early on and not so much as who wins.

I like your idea. Two Tacomas side by side and a light pedal push as if you’re leaving from a stop at a green…watch the ECT pull away with ease until it becomes constant, say 30-40mph.

I have E-rated 33" tires and some other added weight. I used the ECT as my "second start button" daily.

I had the KDMax tune and then, the KDPro tune (to get the TSB for CC done). Since then, I rarely use the ECT button, only for occasional towing. Tune makes it all okay. Mostly.

That’s an apples and oranges comparison. People don’t floor it every time they start from a stoplight or drive around town. ECT improves response by shifting at higher rpm’s, better response due to higher power at higher rpms as the auto changes gears without having to push the pedal to the floor. Nothing “placebo” about it, it works.

exactly, that's where the difference is. with ECT off my truck can't get out of it's own way when i am making a right turn from a stop sign unless i almost floor it.

I tried ECT once pulling my 2k lb boat. Didn't like it at all. It made the engine sound louder, and caused longer shift points in the transmission which created worse fuel economy. Leaving it in S5 was perfect. Maybe towing a 5k lb trailer, or more ECT is the ticket, but for any other type use, it just not necessary. I can easily roast the tires from a stop just by stomping on the go petal in the D mode with the truck if wanted...it doesn't need any other help. This v6 is a rocket compared to my 2001 4.7 v8 tundra.

I just don’t like shifts at rpm’s so low the engine is lugging shifting at 1500 rpm or so lol. Higher RPMs are an engines happy place and I don’t see much loss mpg wise because you’re not always accelerating, most driving is at a fairly steady speed. ECT for me but whatever works for you.

I can’t hang anymore. So I’m doing it to make you all, that have not felt the FULL effects and the affect it will have on you, into INSTAFANS.

IF you put the GAS pedal to the floor from a stop, it will NEVER do what it’s designed to do. However, IF you do what I’m about to tell you, you’ll NEVER go back to non ECT driving for the city-country.

TW, in no way am I responsible for the adrenaline these folks are about to feel. Hey, I love to burn Alky in FAST saws!

(All of these situations are from a stop) So, from a stop with no one in front of you and plenty of flat track in front of you as well, first at an on ramp for a freeway/highway, don’t know why, but off a left or right turn with the momentum I’m about to tell you about, you will experience the smile I experience. Like the ones I just had this evening.

Here’s the trick. When you give it GAS, give it part throttle between 1/3-2/3 (you’ll eventually find the sweet spot). It will leave strongly and go through first and second gears. It’s at that critical point where the magic happens. STOMP on the GAS pedal when the revs are in that “crescendo” moment for second gear and later days!

3500rpm power you will feel throughout the power band and that will kill the low lag some of you are experiencing.

    HAPPY FATHERS DAY!

I love ECT but never tried what you describe. I’ll give it a shot and if impressed I’ll call it Topanga Launch Mode lol.

    David, done deal!

I finished washing the Taco this evening and from a rolling start making a right, I gave it that part throttle and the truck got side ways with the traction control kicking in because the tires were wet. I was not expecting that!

    no

I turn it on first thing and I drive in 6s, driving in D alone it just shifts too much...downshifts needlessly and upshifts too soon. I get 22mpg every day at 77mph on the interstate, sometimes I get 23 on backroads.....your foot is the biggest fuel guzzler
