Any cons to having ECT power on all the time?

Quick update since I’m up and free atm. I went to the dealer yesterday and had the new tune uploaded. There are three things I noticed right away. First was getting on the freeway. Put the pedal to the floor and no more lag. It went through the gears firmly as it gained speed. Motor sounded real good in doing so. Good stuff. Second, when cruising the streets, a semi push to the GAS pedal did not kick down a gear and no lag, but rather raised the rpm about 500 revs for a smoother acceleration. It did kick down a gear, but it involved more pedal. So I was surprised there. Before, it would just kick down. Third, shoot, I forgot third! My brain is still with the Televue 8 checking out Saturn just now. WOW!!! If I remember I’ll post again. Shoot, perhaps it was the 3:00am joint:rasta:

Very nice tune. At the dealer for the Element just now, and the drive over here was bad ass. Including the drive out of the canyon!!! The downshifts were smooth and not many for hills and as it used to do. In some cases it pulled good enough not to have to punch it some more. Crazy to say, but it now has that v8 pull when one gives minor adjustments to the demand and the vehicle moves steadily. Albeit in a mini way, but the V6 now has a decent pull for not having to kick down.

The Japanese engineers that retuned it got it pretty damn spot on. It’s like having ECT on. Now the question is, will they improve the ECT tune?

Stoner just remembered the 3rd observation.

The tune is on the aggressive side, but smooth and what most folk are looking for from what I have been reading. I’m not touching ECT as of now so that the ECU learns me driving habits. It certainly isn’t shifting all over the place as it’s learning.(if that’s what it’s doing?) Tap is on instant demand ready to make some instafans.

The exhaust note sounds different too.

Like those who have done would say, “I highly recommend it IMHO.”

btw, I was hoping it would cure the dreaded and infamous S2 clunk. But it didn’t :0(

    Have a great weekend!

AT, when in Smode, if you drive in 2nd gear, like myself when I drive up the mountain to get home, and one comes to a stop, there is a clunk that occurs when it shifts down to first. What I do simply is to put it in D when I get to the top. But if one forgets, that clunk will remind you!

What tune are you referring to from the dealer that improves it that much? Are you talking about TSB-0092-20? Or is there another ECU TSB that has come out since then? I got the last ECU TSB update, but it wasn't that much better than before.

Never heard anything like that, but the taconic and berkshire mountains i travel never had the cause to use S2. I'm always in D with the exception of S4 going downhill. Its about as smooth as can be changing modes.

It’ll happen going downhill too. I like to use the trans to help stop (for those in the SFValley, Ventura/Winnetka is a perfect example of you get caught at a red light off S2 coming down Ventura) but another moment in forgetfulness, and she’ll bite in S2. I remember reading about here, but it’s never caused serious issues, so I don’t bother.

That leaves the other infamous sounds! Interior fakie fake sound from the right speaker panel/a-pillar panel ended up being (highly believe) the 4x4 control module. Or at least nearby. The other is the body/radiator mount(?) click sound when one drives over a bump. Bofe are fixable, but the passenger airbag stops me from wanting to fix it myself. The click doesn’t bother me much.

Not the perfect truck, I could make it, but with that said, I now truly enjoy driving this sporty Tacoma. The new tune makes it so.

Mine was night and day. So much so I’m wondering if they’re going to tune a better ECT. And it’s a fairly good system from what I have experienced.

What are you talking about? Toyota dealers don’t have “tunes”.

    Tunes, modes, whatever.

Get a tight grip dude, if you don’t know what I’m referring to, it is what it is. I’m sure you’re smart enough to figure what I’m referring to.

I'd have to try S2 at some point. I once had it in S3, but even that... its smooth....no nothing.

Could be by ‘20 they fixed it. Mine was a DEC ‘17 purchase. If you want to try, just drive down the street in S2 and keep it there, then come to a stop without downshifting. Let the trans do it.

You did an ECM update, smoked too much pot, and blabbered on for several posts in a purple haze.

    Got it.

While he’s thinking of what to say, as a two stroke tuner, I tune cylinders, pistons, crankcases, drive via sprockets, carbs, etc. Now a “programmer” in my eyes does the same thing. He’s fine tuning. And the new tune is bad ass. If you haven’t already, go into your dealer and request one because of that “lag.” It makes a difference.

My question is what TSB is it? The pic you have only refers to an "OP code 1810" I got reflashed last year on what I believe is the latest ECU update. If there is a later one, please reference the TSB number. Otherwise, all I can guess is that your truck was running an older and much worse ECU program from what they are putting in now(2020's and newer) But they are still crappy. I got a tune from a tuner, and that is what woke my truck up. Toyotas ECU updates are nothing close.

But for clarification, please post the T-SB-xxxx-xx that you are talking about.

Well, you don’t live nearby, otherwise a quick drive will help. Mine is so much more responsive. I couldn’t honestly ask for more. Although an improved ECT if at all possible, would be icing on the cake.
