I still have the original USB port, and that cable is connected to it. I have the USB port tied up behind the instrument panel.

My phone's compass sensor employs two e-gyros and a magnetic fallback.

A magnetic holder would ruin my fallback compass. It doesn't matter much, because it's seldom used, but I prefer not to destroy expensive equipment for passing convenience.

I use a Ram ball, bolted to the dash. X mount.

I want black T-track. Then I can hold my phone with a machining vise. Bad ass, maximized.

I wouldn't waste time and money looking any further than the Dashtop Multi Mount from thetacogarage.com. I tried wayyy too many phone mounts before arriving at this: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...ing-to-your-dash.553442/page-46#post-20223778

Plus, there's a 35% off labor day promo code for orders over $65. TWLDDMM3575. You can get the mounting system, two ram balls, and a phone holder for $99, but with 35% off that's $65! under budget.

I found a way to keep it simple. A phone will fit nicely on top of the dash above the radio as long as something is there to hold it securely in place. I attached Velcro to the back of my phone and built this with scrap plexiglass, double-sided sticky tape, the other half of the Velcro, hot glue, and a Las Vegas souvenir:
