Any DCSB owners use their trucks for camping?

Ordered a Leer XR100 shell (which should be here in a week or so) and was curious if any DCSB owners still managed to make their truck beds "sleep worthy" for camping?

I am pretty set on regular tent camping but just wanted to see if anyone got creative with their short bed setups...

 

I have on a few occasions. I have a 100XQ on mine with a full bedrug. I really don't need more padding, so as long as its not too cold, I just use my poncho liner or a light blanket. If its cold, I usually keep a couple blankets in the back.

 

So you keep the tailgate down I take it? I'm 6'1, I don't think I'd have any other choice...even if I laid at an angle

 

I have a small tent that fits in the truck between the wheel wells and is the length of the bed with the tailgate open. I fit nicely in there. No way you are sleeping in it though with the tailgate up.

 

I prefer a separate tent. If you ever need to do a beer run or use your truck for whatever else, you don't have to break down your tent. Truck tent is nice, but if you have a medium-large dog your truck tent options are also very limited

 

I take mine camping. I use a tent. I guess if I really wanted to sleep up high or whatever, I would get one of those tent kits that goes on top of my bed rack and sleep up there.

I'm too tall to sleep comfortably in the Long Bed version as well... so that didn't factor into my decision on LongBed/ShortBed

I use a big tent on the ground for now.

 

i forgot to add... the lil tent i have for my truck is not a specific truck tent... just a standard tent that has the dimensions to fit on the bed. Also its low enough that driving around town with the tent setup and bedding inside up to say 50mph is no issue as its secured nicely.
