Nice edit. You are right regarding experience but are we talking HF quality or experience?

This is the bullshit every tools discussion turns into. Tools don’t make the man. Experience trumps bla bla bla........
Top shelf tradesmen have high expectations of themselves and their tools. They need them to work at a certain level each and every time they pull them out. They have learned the VALUE of better tools vs HF or other low level tools. The value they assess to tool value comes from that same experience you speak of.

So if tools don’t make the man and you can not buy experience then what tools do the inexperienced buy and what tools do the experienced buy? The inexperienced buy shit because they don’t know any better. The experienced understand the value that better tools offer.

Now if you still feel the need to piss down my leg go ahead. But I have enough experience to know that great tradesmen buy tools to match their skills and the less experienced buy tools that match theirs.

id also note that serious tool threads really don't take place on midsize Japanese truck forums...because the average poster does not know what they are talking about. Id suggest you head over to garage journal or any of the several other tool boards to have an honest discussion with folks that make their living with their tools.

It seems like HF is issuing a 20%-off coupon every 3 hours or so, so even if the wrench doesn't go on sale, there'll be a coupon soon.

Not putting my life and $30,000 plus dollar truck on the line for a cheap $10 tool.

You could get by for stock wheels but I wouldn't touch this thing for engine rebuild or expensive lightweight wheels .
When I was rebuilding my rotary motor, I couldn't find my trusty ole Craftsman torque wrench so I borrowed a neighbors Pittsburgh Pro torque wrench. Tension bolts are 29ft lbs. Dialed it 27 to be safe.
Kept turning and felt uneasy so I stopped. I had a friend bring his Mac over and checked what it was tightened to. ..37 ft lbs! Backed out the bolts as fast as I could and returned it and swore never ever again to touch a cheap tool.

When you've had bad experiences with cheap tools, you'll know.
But, to each his own .

I've read everything everyone has said. I'm almost afraid to comment on this, but, I agree if someone is using there tools for a living, you have to buy tools that will withstand the use and abuse. If you use a HF torque wrench 50 times a day, 5 days a week, it's going to let you down. If you need a torque wrench 5 times a year, maybe a HF 1 will work for you. As people have stated, get it calibrated. Just my thoughts.
There's a lot of good info in here.
    Thanks for all the info.

Well, I’m not the OP. I was just responding to the request. I don’t rebuild engines, so not my thing. I can’t remember the last time I needed a torque wrench. It makes sense that HF wouldn’t make the best quality. I don’t hate HF. They have their place. Once, I had to drill out a bolt at the bottom of a pool. I picked up a pneumatic drill for under $20. It worked great and I didn’t worry about it getting wet. A cargo net for the back of the truck was something like $8. Their storage bins and toolboxes aren’t bad (my roller is a Craftsman, though).

I have a great mix of tools from expensive to dirt cheap and the all serve a purpose, most of my air tools are Harbor Freight that l bought in the 1980s and 90's.

Accuracy is more important that price IMHO. You may be amazed at what I found when I did scientific testing on a discount torque wrench. MY SCIENTIFIC TORQUE TEST

Nice of ya, Shark. But I'm mostly here to learn from others such as yourself who probably know a lot more than I do. Just happy to be a part of it.

At the lower end of the scale, that's when the margin of error seems greatest, at least according to my findings.
