I want to get some input from anyone who's an electrician...my garage does not have an overhead light or any power plugs so I wanted to add some. There is already a hot conduit run into the garage pictured below...

The markings in the wire say "TypeNM-B 12/2 with Ground Plastic 600volts Cirtex-U (UL) J.S./D.W"

    Black, White, and exposed

And this is the light fixture I want to install...

These are the wires on the fixture

I want to install a power outlet and a light switch for the over head lights. Now I am a do it yourselfer so I was just wondering if someone can give me some guidance as to what to get and how to make the connections. I don't have the money to pay an electrician to come and do this so I figured I come and ask some of you guys here! :D

Is your feeder wire from the panel or on the end of a loaded circuit ?

Well I am pretty sure it's from a loaded circuit as there is only a one wire run into the garage the other side of the garage already has power, lights, and outlets. I think I got a pretty good idea of how this works...but since the overhead light does not have a ground wire I don't know where to hook up the ground from the cable to. Does that make sense?

You can only have 12 devices on a circuit , if you are adding lights to the end of an already loaded circuit , this is no bueno .

Can you test what else is on the circuit you intend to add to ?

    This is what I found...

Would I just leave the ground at the light fixture just hanging there not hooked up to anything?

Not sure how I would test...and you mean I can only have 12 things hooked up per outlet or per run?

That ground would be grounded at a lug in the electrical box

12 devices per circuit , for example 5 lights and 7 plugs .

Adding more devices can lead to an overloaded circuit , which is a fire hazard .

Ohh I am good then :D I only have 1 light and two outlet boxes in the other room, so this would add another light and another outlet box. That means I can add a few more outlets in my garage! :)

Those flourecents usually have a wiring area with a ground screw , it is usually green .

The diagram you showed is a porcelain sconce on a metal box

In your picture of the light you can see the ground screw just above the center hole of the light.
