I found a recent thread about home standby generators (Generac), but I didn't see anything on exactly my question.

Background: I live in northern California, and our local power company has alrweady notified everyone that in order to try to avoid another "Camp Fire (Paradise, CA)" disaster, they will be blacking our large areas on "Red Flag" days this summer. Such outages may last up to 5 days as needed. I'm researching generators for our house. A full standby unit is waaay out of the question financially, so a portable is under consideration. Per various web sites that help you calculate what capacity you may need, I generally arrive at 12kW - 15kW estimated capacity [central A/C, 2 refrigerator/freezers, propane stove/oven, washer/propane dryer, and at least normal wall outlets in the kitchen and living rooms]. House is 1700 ft^2, 3 bed/2 bath. It already has a manual transfer switch installed by previous owner.

So basically all I need is the generator itself.

I have found tons of info on Generac brand, and they seem to be the most common brand from what I have found so far. They are a bit pricey, anywhere from $2500 - $3000+ for a 12kW and larger unit. Of all the many other brands I have found that offer >10kW capacity units, the one I believe is closest to Generac in features and capacity is a brand called Duromax (no, not the GMC/Chevy Duramax o_O). Problem is, I haven't found really any online reviews by owners of this brand, and no one I know personally has any experience with this brand.

I know 'you get what you pay for', and I would not mind paying the higher price for the seemingly well known and trsuted General products, but a $1,000+ price difference is a fairly significant hit, and I just wanted to try to get all the info I can to see if the Duromax may indeed be an acceptable option.

    Much appreciated.

Never Saw or heard of them.

The important thing to find out is how are warranties handled local or ship on your dime truck freight .

to be looked at and told user damage but can be replaced at 3/4 the price of new .

General Service in your town or hours away ??

Another thing to think about you don`t mention fuel !!

Are you planning on Propane to run off your tanks on hand ?

Gasoline how close is your nearest supply if the electric is shutoff ??

Can you store 50 to 100 gallons at home
