    Kind of....

I work for the Department of Ag doing Environmental Farm Audits. What that means is I'll truck across a field for soil samples, adjust sprayer calibrations, check Irrigation Pivots for uniformity, schedule irrigation in blueberries and even launch a rowboat into a manure lagoon.

But I'm currently not farming myself, although I have hauled silage for my father in laws beef cattle, which I'm hoping to take over now that Beef prices are climbing.

He peaked at about 30 head, 1 bull several cows and calves and now he's down to probably about 15-18. He's getting old and fishing is taking his attention but in order to keep my freezer full I think I'll be taking over.

Around 3,000 acres in eastern GA used to have about 20 head of cattle and a bull but my great uncle in law whom lived on the farm died so they sold the cattle. We grow cotton, corn, peanuts, wheat, and did a little bit of tobacco but mainly for the townspeople to use and not for profit. We have around 1,000 acres spread across my town where we grow watermelon, cantaloupe, peanuts, cotton, and some grains. Our biggest cash crop is peanut, melons, and cotton in that order. All of our tractors are green and all except for one are paid for and around 25 years old only requiring maintenance and fuel. If we get a good melon and nut crop this year the farm in GA will be paid off and fully in the black.
Edit: A small 30 acre dairy farm a few towns over we don't make much money off of it but it's been in my family since they came and settled here from Ireland. From what I've heard it used to be around 50,000 acres but someone bought it and built a town on it when the rail lines came through.

I'm more interested in helping people in the nursing field than farming. It's good money and you couldn't ask for a better farm to inherit but not very secure nor does it give me the ability to move around and work pretty much anywhere I want to like nursing will.
Edit: But yes if it keeps going the way it has the past few years we will be just fine even with the higher cost of fuel, taxes, etc. Lucky someone a few years back had the good sense to keep a budget and do what needed to be done to have the farm making money quickly.

Mostly corn. Late seasons we do sunflower, and some do wheat, but we have not.
We also have cattle, about 300 head, and 200 sheep.

I farmed all through high school and for a couple of years in college. Now, a high school kid can't get a job on a farm as most farmers hire Mexicans. Of course, you can't really blame them too much if the choice is between a serious 40-year old man with 25 years of farming experience or a goofy 14-year-old kid fresh out of tractor driver school who is likely as not to run into a ditch and break an axle while daydreaming about his girlfriend (not a hypothetical -- a high school kid I was working with once actually did this).

I've driven to and from farm jobs in my Toyota pickups but I rarely drove them at work as they just didn't haul or pull enough. Usually I'd drive something like a F250 with a diesel tank and toolbox in the back or an F600 flatbed if I had to do heavier things, like take feed and water to the cattle.

Tacoma-sized Toyota pickups are pretty nice for doing maintenance and small construction tasks though, if you have a utility trailer that is.
