Collecting rain water.

 

I'm sure that it's been mentioned before but BUYLCI.com has Scepter style 5 gallon water containers for 24.99 OD green or Desert Tan. I bought 4 of them and they are Milspec. Perfect for preppers.

 

theyve prosecuted a few people with MASSIVE rainwater collection retention ponds.. but having a few 55gal barrels in your back yard, i dont think anyone would notice. ive got a sizeable underfloor storage area since im built into a mountain. i could probably store 20 or 30 55gal drums in each of the two spaces and no one would know.

 

In Oregon, you have water rights to the rain that falls on your roof. If it hits the soil it's not yours. Crazy, but functional rule.

I remember reading somewhere about that being a law in a state. Maybe several?

I think that water is going to be the new oil, especially in the west and south west. I don't currently collect rainwater. Summer of 2012 was a drought, my grass was still green in the low areas. The corn topped off at about 3' that year My well is one of the deepest in the area (and oldest) as long as I have power I'll have water. Nevertheless I'm planning on starting rainwater collection this summer.

I agree that water will be the new oil, especially in States where cheap water is no longer available or getting scarce! I also agree that it falls from the sky and is everyone's "property." Therefore, it places someone in a difficult position potentially. It is why we have threads like this and concerns like we do.

For a State to regulate the "harvest" of rainwater is, in my opinion, ridiculous but governments seem to be in the business of ridiculous - NSA, IRS, gun grabbing and so many others.

I offer that only as information since my thought is that I will do "whatever it takes" to insure the safety and happiness of me, my family and those close to me.

 

I grew up in Bermuda. All we had was Rainwater and DeSalinized sea water.

 

Makes me glad i live in pa.

 

One of my buddies that is a survival gadget junkie sent me one of these and it's actually kinda nice. I don't wear a survival bracelet thing so I slipped it on the wrist strap of my bow since my buddies still break my balls about the one time I got turned around on a blood trail through bottom land. When they see it I'm sure to get some more laughs.

 

What... no emergency blanket, or lifestraw? JK Neat, I like it. Is the compass at all usefull?

 

My golf and modding addiction are really putting a hampering on my BOB/prepping. Finally got started though. Bought my backpack, e-tool, compass, life straw, knife, camelback blatter, and can openers. Pretty small start but it's a step in the right direction.

 

Including the items I already mentioned: Glock 19 (which I don't currently own), paracord, lighter, flashlight, MRE or other longer life food, clothes.... Since I'm not an expert I was going to look at what others have already done for their BOB. I know there's some good info in this thread already (just have to go back and find it again).

 

I hear that - and for those that have seen my truck know that if "one is none, two is one and three's a spare," know that "even more is barely enough" is my motto!!....
