Any fellow survivalists utilize their truck?

This one depends on where you are located. Handguns are definitely easier to conceal, but you trade off long range and versatility. For instance, all you can do with a handgun is shoot/intimidate people, up close. A rifle or shotgun allows for hunting or long-range deterrent as well, but you're not likely to do much of that in a city.

 

This has nothing to do with politics, it is survival. Choosing people's feelings over survival isn't a good survival plan.

I agree with not having a full sized rifle on your back to an extent. Something with a folding stock in a backpack would be a better choice.

 

Oh, and if it's a true SHTF scenario, don't walk on the roads if you can help it.

 

I live in CA. If I have a non concealed weapon, I'd be attacked and people would freak. I suppose you're right. In other states where everybody has rifles you'd be fine.

Somewhere in the line of genes my brother received a dose of cranial rectosis and has been a anti-gun/big Gov't fool for many years an refuses to come into my house.

It's sad that someone who you grew up with and love dearly will retreat in such a way over an indifference.....

I am at school at UC Santa Barbara but I'm from LA and moving back in 6 months for work.

In Santa Barbara, I could easily get into the mountains in the National forest if I wanted to. You can get way north on fire roads and dirt that way. I would try to get home to my parents place though. That would be really hard without a vehicle.

Sure, ARs have sheer volume, until you run out of loaded mags, but if it's not a showdown in the middle of the street (in other words, shooting from concealment) I don't think the autoloader would have that much of an advantage.

Either way, in a survival situation, I think single fire accurate shots are a much better idea than a non-aimed volume of fire.

Having a good stockpile at home is a big reason I started keeping a GHB in the truck. If worse comes to worst, I can walk home. Where I've got tons of stuff, and another vehicle.

 

No shitstorm necessary, I enjoy discussion. You brought up running out of loaded mags, I have 4 on my chest rig and another 2 on my belt. How much ammo can one carry for a non magazine fed weapon? Not that it can't be done, but I would want to have superior firepower or at least match what I'm facing. There's a reason cops don't carry revolvers and shotguns anymore, to match the likely threat at hand.

Mag fed weapons will be more effective, especially if it's against a group.

 

I am not going anywhere if I can help it as the home is the best place to be as you know it the best.....this is why I live out in the burbs in a very very small sub division and many of the neighbors are ready for the day this happens....

 

On the flip side of the coin, if you're facing off against enough people to require a full mag without a reload, odds are you wouldn't get through your full mag before one of them shot you.

Part of why I like living in the country. I've only got 7 or 8 neighbors around me, and half of them are farmers.

You guys have some seriously different weather patterns out where you are. Tornadoes and snowstorms out here are unstoppable with firearms.
