I’ve been using fountain pens for a few years now. My daily work pen is a Pilot Custom Heritage 92 inked up with Iroshizuku Asa-gao. Anyone else into pens?1B48B4CF-9B31-40E8-A87A-77EE59C1948E.jpg

I got into calligraphy and had a dip pen, but finding ink that won't bleed on standard printer paper has been harder than I feel it should be... So I stock with the pilot g2's. They're probably the best mass market pens you could get imo.

Dip pens and fountain pens are very different and use different types of ink. Most fountain pens and inks won’t bleed unless you lay down a ton of ink in one spot. I use mine regularly on regular copy paper and have no issues. While they are not capable of the same things as calligraphy pens, they are a great way to add some character to your writing.

When I was "working" I had two fountain pens I cycled through. Nothing fancy but I did like the way wrote better than a fountain pen.

Maybe I just didn't try any good fountain pens then. Felt strange when I tried the ones I did. Very similar to using a regular pen imo. I didn't notice much difference actually in my writing. But I was cautious to invest in a high quality one ($$) so that could have been the problem. I was trying to learn copperplate at the time. I don't think that font really works with anything other than dip pen nibs.

The nib type you choose will make the most difference. If you get a fine or extra fine nib, it will perform similarly to a ball point in how your writing looks and how it feels when writing. If you go with a medium nib or bigger it will be better. I use a medium for daily writing at the office and wouldn’t want to go any larger. You could try a flex nib as well.

If you can write larger, there are a lot of options. There is broad, double broad, italic, stub. Each one will give you something different.

The folk that take time in their calligraphy are the true MVPs. It’s so satisfying.

It looks awesome. I don’t know anything about calligraphy. I do have really nice handwriting though!

:anonymous: Doesn’t your handwriting with fancy pens count?

Lol not quite. Calligraphy takes practice and technique, I just write with a cool pen. It does add a cool look to your writing, but takes almost no work whatsoever.

My mom used fountain pens for years and had stellar penmanship.

My wife learned calligraphy and had a variety of nibs for her creations.

Its one of the skills computers and spiffy printers have replaced for most.

I did 'develop' a decent signature a number of years ago, but just with a regular pen. I signed lots of documents, and I didnt want my name mispelled/mispronounced should they wind up in the paper or court. :D
