Take your time and watch Craigslist and sales on Amazon. I have grabbed quite a bit off both over the years.

Will do! It's probably a good idea to start with a tent of some sort, a good sleeping bag and tarps for above and below the tent correct? Probably more viable than getting a rack and RTT installed on my truck atm haha

Mostly depends on your budget, and where you plan to store stuff when not in use.

You can be as simple as possible, or fully outfitted.

A good tent usually doesn't need a tarp over it, but a slightly undersized tarp for a tent footprint is essential in the PNWet.

As for sleeping bags, I highly recommend the 0° bag from Teton (Sportsmans). Super soft and comfortable and priced sub $100.

RTTs are absolutely great for convenience, but on the pricey side. Also can be a bit more of a storage issue in the off times when not in use.

But, if you have cash on hand, and watch Craigslist diligently you can score things like this.

Found this used 2010 Autohome Columbus and fairly new Thule rack system up in Seattle for $800.

Slapped it on my '97 Taco that my son drives now.

These tents are over $3k new, and the Thule rack is at least $700 new.
