Are you thinking of doing a 6" lift and 33s? Are you 4x4 or a prerunner?

Been going back and forth on what to do. Have an 18 MGM tacoma. Light off roading and daily driver.

Wanted to at least get 4in out of a lift, so figured may just go with 6. Was thinking RC and changing the shocks to bilsteins. RC just for the value and bc I'm not jumping hills and shit.

If you're wanting to stick with 33s I would recommend a 4". I've seen 33s with 6" and it just looks disproportionate IMO. 35s and 6" looks much better together.

I see a lot of people mention "regearing" for 35s. What does that mean and involve and is it truly needed? (New to this)

No worries, we were all new at some point.

Regearing is in reference to our differentials. That's the thing in our axles that send power to the tires, among other things.

Regearing means you replace a portion of it to change the ratio of the gearing. Basically it allows your transmission to turn big, heavy tires with ease. If you don't do it, you put excess strain on your transmission.

Here's my .02 on the matter. Don't get a 4" or 6" lift. They're very expensive, you don't gain any ground clearance (because the drop bracket hangs low) and expensive to have properly install. On top of that, you mention replacing the shocks.

Skip the drop bracket and just go with a nice 3" lift and some 33" tires. Or if you're ok with cutting, you can fit 34s and still get away with stock gearing.

    Truely needed no....highly Reccomend Yes.

Regear is 2000-2500 parts and labor unless you can do it yourself.

I just want a setup similar to this picture. Something with a good "aesthetic" look, good on light off road, and a daily driver.

Yeah that does look pretty sexy. Is something like this not high enough?

Since 33" (255 80 17, proper fitted wheels) will fit on stock suspension, no rub no cut, a 6" lift would seem a bit much.

*skinny 33s. Always important to specify that. Although your statement is correct, in a way it perpetuates spreading misinformation because people read 33s and assume 285s

Maxtrac 4" spindle, Fox Shocks, OME Dakar Leaf Springs.

Is the parts listed on that truck I saw online..guess it's a 4x2.

What similar setup can you get 4in lift from thats quality but not breaking the bank?

For a 4x4, anything above a 3" lift requires a drop bracket. That's just how it is unfortunately. Here's a brief description on what a drop bracket lift is.

    5. Drop bracket lift kits are easy to visualize. Imagine adding a new section of frame to the bottom of your truck’s existing frame, and then mounting all your suspension parts to that new section and you’ve got it. The main advantage of a drop bracket kit is size – they’re a reasonably simple mechanism for grabbing 5-6″ of lift, an amount that is impossible to acquire using a spacer lift kit alone. They also preserve the factory ride.

The main disadvantages of drop-bracket kits are:

    • Cost – $2500 is not an uncommon figure for parts, not to mention labor
    • Challenging install (especially for the average home mechanic)
    • Higher center of gravity
    • They’re essentially irreversible
Despite these disadvantages, most of the “big” lifted trucks you see driving down the road are riding on a drop bracket lift kit. This is often because of economics.

No such thing as not breaking the bank when it comes to the lift your asking....what’s your budget you have in mind?

Want to stay around 4k or less if possible. That's lift wheels and tires

So far that's $1,700, plus you mention replacing the shocks (let's say that's another $500 for the low end) so $2200.

Or you could take that $2,200 and purchase this. High quality shocks and a complete replacement leaf pack. Then just have local members help with the install.

If you really want to go 4" or 6" then I think you should. Don't think we're trying to convince you otherwise. I just want you to make an informed decision because I've seen it countless times of people complaining after a drop bracket lift if not done right, i.e. expensive.
