I started playing guitar when I was in my early teens and played for about 15 years or so. Quit playing in my late 20s and sold all my gear, of which I still kick myself for getting rid of 2 of them!

Just recently decided to get back into playing again, and picked up this used Ibanez S5EX1. I've always loved the 'S' series Ibanez guitars, and almost every guitar I've owned has been some type of natural/dyed wood grain finish. Still trying to decide what pickups to put in it.

Realized I have a LONG way to go to get back to where my playing was, but loving it all over again!

something about Dimarzios and Ibanez just seems so right.

that being said, i have a black cherry S Classic that's been my main stage guitar for years (at least for things tuned to D Standard) loaded with a Lace Hemi in the bridge and Finger Burner in the neck.

I love the S Classic without the tremolo, sooo nice. I actually just started looking around for a used one with a wood finish, but I'll have to check the old Ibanez catalogs to see if they even made one for the US.

As for Dimarzios and Ibanez, I agree. I had an older Duncan Pearly Gates and Duncan Distortion in storage, and put those in my S. Wasn't thrilled with the Pearly Gates in this guitar, so I put a Dimarzio Evolution in the neck. It's much better in this particular guitar, but now the Duncan Distortion in the bridge is unbalanced. Got a Dimarzio Crunch Lab on the way, as I've read good things about it and listened to a bunch of audio clips on Youtube.

i know a wood finish one exists. it's model SC 620 or 740... something like that. Ibanez doesn't have the most unique model numbers.

i've always used Tone Zones and Super Distortions in the bridge and bounce around between AirZones and Air Nortons for the neck, usually with pretty good results. the fact that most Ibanez guitars have that 5 way switch adds to the versatility.

I bought the Jackson Dinky at a pawn shop for 145.00 last week, I am rebuilding the squire for something to do. Just started getting back into it after a 25 year hiatus. So much I don't know or remember....

Here's a profile of the road case.
    -Power Distributor
-Avid Eleven Rack (for effects only)
-Carvin SS power amp (god forbid anything happen to that amp at a show)
    -Pedal Drawer
-Revv Generator MKII (killer. fucking killer. This replaced a dual Mesa setup I was using for live stuff. AND its MIDI controllable)

    IMG_2999.jpg
The pedal drawer is controlled by the Hex switcher. These are some sounds that the 11R doesn't come with, or I don't care for.
    clockwise from left:
EHX Bass Balls (so I don't have to lug around a talk box for one song a night )
JHS The Prestige (always on, basically like a buffer/pre-amp into the front of the 11R)
Mooer Pitch Box (only used as a -1oct doubler for solos)
Joyo Tremolo (the 11R one is a little lackluster)

    IMG_3001.jpg

Pedalboard my dad and I built. It houses the Voodoo Lab GCP MIDI controller, the Vox classic wah, a tuner, and wireless receiver. Bada bing, bada boom.

    Closet:
I have a Gibby LP set up for slide I keep in the closet, as well as an Epi Goth V, mandolin, and banjo. There's also a '92 Mesa 50Cal+ and some Jet City amps in there among other goodies.
I also keep a Gibson SG Custom and a Fender 2x12 in the trunk of my car in case of "emergencies". :rockband:

I've always like the P-Bass special:
P & J pups, P body, J neck. I've owned Ps, which were lacking and Js which were also lacking. I've had PJs too. Looking for the right one again, thinking about building one. Currently playing a Mustang bass. Clearly I'm a Fender fan :)

Always used Fender bass and Ampeg heads/cabs.

I knew a guy in high school who had like 6 different mustang basses. I think they were all just different colors, but otherwise identical.

All I got for Christmas was a lousy pair of gloves. Good excuse to buy myself something nice! 2013 Gibson J-35. This thing is incredible. Its so loud that you could seriously play unplugged with a (soft) drummer.
