I ordered some elixirs for my 339. They’re out of stock right now though so haven’t gotten them in. Gonna swap them on once I get them. Or I may wait till I can find a luthier to set my guitar up with them once things open back up

I had no idea guitar stores were closed.
I'll have to call bernie and see if he'll curbside deliver me some strings tomorrow morning lol

String changes arent that hard even on an electric.
    You can do it!
It just takes forever to tune it once you get them on.
Even if you have a guy do it theyre going to stretch and you'll be retuning that night.
Might as well learn how to do it yourself.

Maybe the guy will let you observe?
Bernie taught me everything I need to know thru the years...
Except how to play as awesomely as he does!
    Thats on me lol

I will never be as good as he is.
Wish you could have been there to watch him shred my guitar!

Little dude absolutely destroyed my ibanez.

    "Oh, metal eh?"

    And wrecked my kramer.

Not literally but in an awesome way.
I just hung my head and cried tears of joy.
I knew they could sound that good!

I’m going to have them do a full and proper setup. I didn’t get it setup from where I bought it, and I’d rather have a professional do it so I can be sure everything is set right and the guitar is al good. That way when it sounds like shit, I’ll know it’s my playing and not the guitar

    Thanks

    Always a good idea.

There is a LOT to it even without a locking nut and rose.
Hopefully you'll love it even more when its done.

Hang out and watch the guy if he'll let you.

Finally getting some better calluses going. I really need tougher ones on my ring and pinky finger. Been trying to do power chords and I’m struggling with them a bit. Need some more dexterity and strength in my hand as well

not a fan of coated strings, i feel they get a dull sound quicker.

i use StringJoy.com for strings. mainly because you can get custom gauges-- i'm using 13-58 for C Standard, 11.5-56 for D Standard, and mess around with their balanced sets for E Standard on my acoustics and electrics.

they also have string conditioner that works really well that's naturally derived v. whatever was in the Dunlop one that stained the fretboard on my bass.

I’ll admit I’m more into electric so bass and acoustic audiophiles probably can hear more of a difference. I like how long the elixirs stay good on my acoustics which I only use in phases every so often. I’ve been guilty of keeping strings on guitars for several years if they’re not breaking lol

in a direct contradiction to how often i restring my electrics (every few months, or day before a show), i think i've restrung my new bass maybe twice since i bought it 3 yrs ago. i like the warmer smooth sound of older strings v. the clackity-clackity of brand new strings on a bass.

I use flats on my basses, super warm after break-in period (usually a month or so), then I don't have to change them again, some people get decades out of a set of good flats, they just get better with age. The tension/flexibility if you're primarily a guitar player could be an issue though.
