Epiphone makes some pretty cool stuff sometimes. I used to have the Blues Custom 30. Sounded as good as it looked, Very cheap for a 2x12 all tube(15 or 30watt selectable) but I ended up selling it to fund Bass stuff.

Tried my hand at an easy first time with a soldering iron project last week. A-OK, so next time, a bigger job maybe.
I bought a preloaded pickguard with Fender Custom Shop Fat 50s pickups. Only 3 connections to get right. I put it in my Mexican Strat. GREAT sounding pickups. Finally, great tones from bridge, and bridge/middle!
The tortoise is the new pickguard.

heated them up with fire. Enough to allow me to twist them off with some serious pliers. Only a small burn. Ha.

What am I going to do? Next I guess I’m just going to pick up a set of 65 reissue pickups, toss on a minty pick guard. Need to get a new nut, the old one was broken, and shoved in a lake of superglue.

Well after playing with all the picks I got in, I finally got the mixed pack of fender picks I ordered a month ago. Not sure what it is, but they just feel the best. Do you guys typically stick to the same pick or do you switch it up?

Ran out of conductive paint so I had to use the foil tape. Anyone else really hate working with this stuff?

These days I'm lucky just to find one haha

Order a funky variety pack or ask a shop when they're open again to see if they have a box of random ones. Some guys have a bunch of different ones. Anywhere from .7mm to 1mm seems to work with me but I tend to go towards the thinner of that range.

3 biggest things improved soldering for me

Use a helping hand tool, use a sponge to keep your iron tip clean, use flux-core solder. Everything else will fall in place.

Did this entire harness (used to saying harness from soldering on trucks haha) from parts replacing the S1 which was very fun, but my brain couldn't process when jamming / playing out.

I ordered 4 different ones from sweetwater. All Dunlop’s but different “models” if you will. Then I got a mix pack of fender from light - medium. The fenders just feel the best though. I like the heavy for electric and the light for acoustic

You're on track to finding your favorites.

Pickboy 70s and 100s for electric.
Fender 1.0mm and dunlop .58mm for acoustic.
Bunch of randoms I got from concert tosses.

typically stick with a Dunlop Ultex Jazz III, the ones that look like frozen piss. but always have a seemingly limitless supply of yellow Dunlop Tortex picks, those are great for just about everything. maybe not enough give for acoustic strumming or rigid enough for speed picking, but it's a good pick-of-all-trades.

I’ve tried Tortex, nylon, and Fender.
I stopped searching for the the right feel / sound, when I got the Fenders. I like the medium, and the thin. Search over.

I did all 3 of those. I had been reading, and watching videos. Then, after buying my iron, I practiced. I didn’t want to F up my project. I’ve welded, so I knew I didn’t want to end up with cold solder on my joints.
The helping hand is a MUST!

I got the yellow Tortex in my first order. Those were my favorites until I got the fenders in. The fenders just feel right though. All the other ones seem to slide around and rotate in my hand but the fenders just stay put. The fender lights just sounded great on the acoustic. Can’t wait to pick up the hummingbird on Wednesday though
Ya the fenders just seem to be perfect for me. Thin for acoustic and heavy for electric.

I got a couple different of the Jazz III. But I’m just not too wild about them with my current skill set. They’d be good for picking I think but they’re a little too stiff for any strumming for me

for strumming, like cowboy-chord, drunk camping singalong shit-- i actually reeeeeally like the larger triangle picks. also work great for bass since i don't have the patience to actually learn how to play bass.
