Yes, but they can be played all up and down the fretboard. Specifically, do you know the open chords. C A G E D. I've seen you're hitting the metal music. But do you know the chords you are playing when you play higher up the fretboard when you play it?

I went down that road...learn how to play a song, but not understanding what/where I'm playing. What transformed me (I still suck) was learning the CAGED system. It starts with the Open Chords, then delves into where to play those same open chords in a closed (barred) chord format along the geography of the fretboard. And more importantly what notes you are playing in those chords so that you can improvise with individual notes amongst those chords...ie lead guitar

Google CAGED system, there's lots of hits

    Peace :rasta:

I shall look that up, thanks. I just know the open chords, but only in their base position. Wouldn’t know where to play them anywhere else really. I just picked a few of the metal-y songs because they’re easy riffs for me haha.

Think of your finger (the barrrrrrre) as replacing the nut as you move around the neck.

    Sure you will!
Youre doing great dont lose heart.

I just moved my strap up one notch from the lowest position, its really helping me with hand positioning and my shoulder.
I get down on myself for poor form then I see some pro hanging his thumb over the top and Im like but, but, but...

Just dont get trapped in cheating with the three note power chord, Im sucking at real bar(re) chords too.
When Im playing along with a song I lose myself and do watever works but Im working on proper hand position and proper fretting this time around.

Practice with an acoustic and then pick up the electric...

    You can do it.

    Lovin it
Im thinkin maybe that guy should have passed on the shrooms and 5th hit of fire :notsure:

    LOVE that burning sg!
    Wicked

Hey does anybody remember that guitar with the lights in the fretboard that you could choose the key or like a pentatonic and it lights up in position all along the entire fretboard?
Almost bought one back in the day.

Now going slow and saying it out loud is kind of working for me...long way to go still.

I really need to drag all mine out and do demos on them for YT. Not so much playing but go thru the specs and stuff.

Not much good Roadstar stuff out there.

Hey! Sorry I haven’t logged in for awhile! Ask me anything about PRS I’ve owned quite a few! My first one was a SE custom 24. It was a decent entry level, but if I were to make a recommendation, you can occasionally find used USA made models for reasonable prices. Models like custom 22/24 or the pre-2009 CE models are great too! I see you’re in Canada too, I’m in Alberta and I haven’t spent even close to the 3k you’ve mentioned. New ones are definitely expensive but PRS has an outstanding reputation for quality. I’ve even bought several online without playing them first (obviously still take caution it’s not a scam). You mentioned $1400, well I’ve owned a custom 22, McCarty, and several CE’s (all of them are American made not the cheaper SE line) for $1500 or less per guitar. Any questions, I’ll try and be more prompt with a response!
