I used to flirt with Drop D a little bit, but 99.9% of the stuff I play is Standard tuning on guitar. I've gotten by with a 4string bass in standard tuning for 20yrs, with 1 very short lived exception when I had to borrow a 5string for a metal band.. now they loved all those alt tunings. Not really my thing though.

Eb tuning??? Dont do this to me I have enough going on in my head already :annoyed::lalala:
    Ur killing me man :spending::spending::spending:
I missed work this weekend because I came home for the amp on the front porch and the rain....

    Motley Crue

    Half step=No more tears, Steelheart...

I just like to pick up whichever one Im feeling and save time.

Im just lazy that way plus I enjoy experimenting with the different tones each tuning gives me....

Tuning is no big deal really I dont mind, just like to not have do it if that option is there.

Not finding a lot of use for this C honestly but its growing on me and its something new to me to peak my interest...so metal.

I tend to practice more when I dont get bored, even if my shoulder hurts and my fingers are bleeding I'll still pick one up and blow thru a couple jams just for fun at the end of a practice session.

    Ahhhhh gotcha
    Im an idiot srry

Found out yesterday that clip on fender tuner does chromatic. Supercool.
I remember you or one of the guys recommending a clip on a while back.
My new best friend says they all swear by the red snark.

I was going to see if this fender is just a rebranded snark. Anyways, its great I love it!

I've covered quite a few songs that were tuned down 1/2 step, our singer could handle the 1/2 higher so we just went standard. You could just bout guarantee that no one in the audience noticed. I'd tune down 1/2 step to learn them, then tune back up when we rehearsed or played. It wasn't worth tuning down and back up again mid-show for a song or 2(back then we didn't have the funds to have different guitars/basses to use for alt tuning)

If I was playing along with recordings and switching back and forth a lot, I'd definitely have a dedicated tuning per guitar, re-tuning gets old fast.

my main band tunes to D standard (DGCfad) and C standard (CFA#D#gc) and i have about two guitars in each tuning.

the band i play bass in is drop B (BF#BE) and C# standard (C#F#BE)

my acoustic is in standard E (EADGbe) also another electric, then two more Floyd Rose guitars one in D standard and one in drop C (CGCfad)

i was experimenting with weirder shit. Mastodon tunes D standard then drops the lowest string further to make an octave with the 5th string (March of the Fire Ants is a good example)

then there's Torche who i think tunes to B standard (BEADf#b) then drops the lowest string to almost slack so it sounds like a bomb.

but C tuning was used by early Queens of the Stone Age stuff, that and clever EQing gave Songs for the Deaf its distinct sound. i think Josh Homme rolled the tone off his guitar but then cranked the mids on the amp. it's like a dull but very in-your-face tone at the same time. my band started in C and it just kind of stuck. eventually added a guitar in D to play faster, tighter songs.

    for reference:

6th string tuned down to make an power chord shaped octave chord with the 5th string

6th string tuned to slack to induce pants-shitting brown note

C standard tone rolled off and mids cranked

We used to cover No One Knows back in the day. That was a fun one and a crowd pleaser. I think I just played it in Drop C(on Bass) if I remember right. That string was LOOSE lol.

same. in our early days we used to cover one Queens song per set, i was still learning to write on my own and the covers were a good way to practice and fill time. but i grew super comfortable playing in C, experimented with a lot of different strings until i settled on a custom (14-60) set from StringJoy.

i did learn that heavier bass strings made it a lot muddier, so i had to toy around with finding a string gauge light enough to sound clear but also not feel like overdone spaghetti while picking. that sucked since bass strings are much more expensive.

Been playing for about a year and a half. Wanted to play since I was in highschool, but 44 was as good as anytime to finally pick it up. Speaking of picking it up, this came home with me today.

Thanks! Always loved Tele's. My Yamaha 800FG, that I got using credit card points, has been my time killer, space filler since I started playing. For an inexpensive guitar, it sounds great, and feels super comfortable even though it's never had a set up. Ive tried, and sold a couple of other acoustics, and I may try others, but the Yamaha won't be going anywhere. Already in love with this Tele though. Just ordered what's claimed to be a mint condition Fender Bassbreaker 007 from Reverb. Certainly worse addictions to have than guitars and guitar related gear.

Dude! That Tele is gonna sound great through the Bassbreaker 007! If you can imagine, a Fender amp that sounds like a Marshall. I have a pair of 007s. I bought the Fender special edition BB007 in lacquered tweed that has a Celestion 10” Greenback. Then, while cruising Facebook marketplace, I found another one that I traded a guitar for. The stock BB 007 speaker is a Celestion 10/30. It’s a good speaker, but the BB is a bass-heavy circuit, and the 10/30 gets a little farty when pushed. I highly recommend upgrading the speaker to the Greenback. It sounds like a 12” speaker in there. For a little amp, they sound huge. Here’s mine:
