What's the best way to learn? I picked up my guitar, an amp, equalizer, and some headphones. Took it apart and cleaned it. Tuned it and ready to learn!

Right now I'm trying to learn the basics.

Pick one string, learn root notes. Once your index fingers are used to moving and finding the notes, introduce your ring finger and learn power chords. Feel the spirit of rock'n roll descending upon you. Turn up your amp to appease the gods of rock. Each ringing power chord will serve as an offering. Now you are baptized and saved. You shall spend eternity in the Tone Zone.

There are a few series for beginner guitarists on youtube (Justin Sandercore & Marty Schwartz are the first two that come to mind). They cover A LOT of material between the two of them and can get you to cover most of the beginner topics. Go to their earlier stuff to learn the basics and they also teach you some easy songs so its not just drills all day.

Besides this,, YouTube would be a great place to pick up some basics. I took quite a few lessons in my early life, but learned most everything on my own just fooling around...

BTW, I'm still not very good after almost 40 years of playing...lol:rofl:

    Re: Your screen name.
This has been my jam all week. 39 Clocks were an early '80s German garage band. "Shake the Hippie" is a great tune in the vein of the Velvet Underground. Much oif the rest of the album swings between VU style psych-rock and Young Marble Giants minimalism:

I wasn't even conceived in '79, but here I am in '10 doing some ding-dong slingin' down in Tallahassee, Fl at a New Year's Eve show. Here's my trusty '60s Classic Player tele, my #1 since '07. White finish, mint pickguard, and rosewood neck. I've modded it with an Electrosocket input, brass saddles, a 4-way pickup selector switch paired with Fender Custom Shop Nocaster pickups. I can do in and out of phase combinations for a fatter or thinner sound:

Found those YouTube channels and they're great. I've found my fingers may be too fat though? Chords are rough for me to get because my fingers.

Sounds right up my alley, I'll have to look for the vinyl version.

Here is my (growing) tele obsession. Guitar stand has room for another:) I got the Mexican Baja (vegas gold) just a few days ago. The relic is a Bill Nash. I'm loving the chicken picking and have learned a lot from Ken Carlson on Country Guitar Chops.com in the past year. Cheers.IMG_0026.jpg
