could be one of those weird amp quirks. i know Mesa's are notorious for dialing in right. my DC10's sweet spot was bass below 3 or else it would get too muddy. my Trem-O-Verb is opposite, i keep the treble low and use the presence knob to adjust the highs.

    Sum bitch....
Got so excited I forgot to save it!

Hahahaaa switched over to clean (which this amp does do well stock) with the footswitch and gone!

Lol doh! I can find it again now that I know how to do it.

    Yeah, BIG difference!

Low volume was fine but when I turn it up, like not even drum level....it just washes out.
Presence makes a huge difference and the resonance pulls out the annoying mids.

    Im liking it.

Definately adding mid with the eq now.
Could not pull it out before.

Nothing assaults my ears like 10s blaring mids.
Just about made this amp unusable.

I bet all the guys hating on blackstar for metal never found these hidden settings and the guys that love them are either aware or are using the software.

Im running it straight with no effects atm.
And Im liking what Im hearing.

I think thats the difference between good quality gear, goin big, running quality guitars and my what I would call mid grade/lowend garage -digital- combo amp setup ;)

I was seriously about to give up on it.

Thinking about it makes me want to touch myself. Want big, loud, paint peeling, glass shattering sound! What should I keep my eyes out for? I figure Marshall, Fender, Mesa, are good. Any years/models I should avoid? Maybe some other brands that are underrated?

And the "wife files for divorce loud setting."
Not that I want that, just the option would be nice...

asking me this is a wormhole question. hahah

all the big names are good, each has certain things to avoid although i think Mesa is the most consistent. also does the metal sound to a T. can't go wrong with any of the Mark series, the old DC series was a hidden gem. DC10s can be found all day for under a grand. also more versatile than the Rectifiers.

Honestly, i'm not the biggest fan of Marshalls. never played one that i could fully get behind.

i like a lot of Fender's combo amps. for half-stack, i would get a Fender Bassman. but that's more for if you use pedals to get your sound.

i essentially have two types of rig: pedal platform, where i take my giant ass pedalboard and run it through a single-channel clean head, for that i have an early 70s Ampeg V4 (this will peel paint off walls) and a one-off Science Street Sweeper. both 100w heads though the Ampeg is probably closer to 120w. the other rig is a Mesa Trem-O-Verb for i don't feel like lugging a giant pedalboard around or if i don't need it. for that rig, all i need is the channel switcher and a tuner. maybe a boost for solos and some delay to make clean parts interesting.

as far as what to avoid-- any of the Marshalls that are hybrid amps (solid state preamp, tube power amp). heard these have some issues. i liked the JCM 900 (i think) had great cleans and a good crunch to it. Mesa Nomads are probably their least popular offering. and i'm not too familiar with Fenders to chime in on that.

some oddball brands worth looking into: Egnater, most have 6L6 and EL34 tubes with a knob to blend between them. super versatile. Traynor, old Canadian brand that screams mojo. loud but easy to work with.

i can definitely help out more if you had a certain sound in mind.

I had an Epiphone Blues Custom 30, great sound, switchable between 15 or 30 watts, but even at 15 watts it was too loud for playing solo at the house. They are inexpensive and definitely punch above their weight glass tone wise. However single coil pickups are not that amps forte and it weighs a ton.

if you like humbuckers and a warm tube sound, I’d highly recommend it. Very under the radar amp.

Ha! My dc5 master volume is the most touchiest knob I’ve ever come across. 1/3 of the way to 1 will keep it playable in the house, slightly above 1/3 of 1 and its max volume after that the knob is just for show.

"Do you think you can turn -that- down a little bit"

Is something else you will never hear your dog say.
    Lol

I will definately hit you guys up when I get enough money saved up.
Always play more and practice harder when I like the sound coming out of the speaker(s)

Well its still a hair blarey, blarey? Is that a word?
    Wth I'll allow it.

Its a little obnoxious 10's sounding right in front of it so dont stand and play right in front of it, or do, cause it sounds so much better.
The phone thru the ol boom box stereo setup in the garage gets pretty loud and its at max volume.

    The amps only at half.
Guess its time to move this one man show into the living room where the real system is for further tweaking at volume....
Single pane windows, nick knacks everywhere...lookout this is happening tomorrow.
Think Ive rocked the neighbors enough for one day.
As long as none of my mounts or pics fall off the wall it'll be allright.

So how much $$ am I looking at for a good tube amp anyways...so many choices.

Mostly play 80s 90s metal/hair metal type tones but real metal like my son plays is a great tone too.
I'll never have enough to throw up a setup like his.
Thats like another quad or 2benellis or a half dozen brand new hoyts....hmmmm
    Priorities I guess....
Maybe someday if I can get some buds to start playing or make the leap into the big leagues like my little bro or hook up with the guy that sold me the rg.

    Srry for the book.
    Just winding down.
What an adrenalin rush playing at volume is.
And I havent even hit the leads yet, just all rythym except for a couple easy ones.
