Any guitar players on TW?

I left my Gibby LP custom on my leather stool for a few days. As I tried to pick it up at a later time, I noticed that the seat was sticking to the back. Kind of like a sweaty arm/leg on a leather couch - very thin layers of leather remain sticking to the back of my LP.

Have any of you had this happen before? If so, what did you do to correct it? I tried rubbing some oil... slightly concerned to try isopropyl alcohol... but will if I need to.

I spent close to ...$4.5k? last year on this puppy as it was a dream guitar of mine... and you can be sure I was disappointed in myself as I was peeling it off the seat.

 

Nitrocellulose lacquer is prone to reacting with chemicals, probably including whatever they cured the leather with. I had a cheap wall hanger nearly burn through the finish on the neck of my SG before I caught it. Search for nitrocellulose repair/cleaning and hopefully something comes up. The good thing is that nitro is much easier to repair than polyurethane. I little wet sanding and buffing and the neck of my SG was like new again. Good luck!

 

The Korean ones are almost always better. Epiphones are no exception. My 1993 G-400 is way better than any new Epiphone in terms of build quality. The electronics sucked, but I upgraded all those anyway. You can't upgrade poor build quality. I actively seek out Korean made guitars if I'm buying an import. Rob Chapman did a video tour of the factory that builds his guitars. The workers start at the equivalent of $24,000 a year and go up from there. Compare that to the peanuts they're probably paying in China and Indonesia and you can see why the Korean workers are going to put more effort into what they do.

 

Right here! Been playing for about 13 years now I'm very partial to Japan made guitars. Play a lot of blues classic rock SRV Hendrix etc used to do a lot of hardcore/punk/metal.
I just picked up this 87 squire mij for $80 its near mint all original a awesome player. It's hard to beat these mij fenders the tokais are another one that beats anything made these days.

 

Yeah, MIJ stuff is amazing quality! I had Fender Japan '66 Jazz Bass reissue that was amazing. Also had a Japanese brand ESP (Edwards) that was great. Nice Strat. I'd pay $300 for that.

 

Me and a buddy got this 89 Korean made squire 2 for $60 awesome awesome fast neck. We modded this one. Lace sensor in the bridge and 80s japan alnicos and electronics in the middle and neck tbx control which is a really cool gives you more variety on tone and makes that lace sensor scream bone nut upgrade tuners full size block this thing is a real player now.

 

Oh ya I'm always collecting Japan made guitars that 87 e serial squire kills most any USA made fender it just feels real you can tell the quality when you pick it up. Also have a special edition 2003 1/25 made Korean epi les Paul trip humbucker this is my bread and butter my second guitar and so versitile. Those pick ups are powerful.

 

I'd play one of those over a USA Fender any day. I've had four USA Strats, and three were so bad that they couldn't be set up to Fender's own specs without intolerable fret buzz. Out of two Teles, one's a gem and the other was crap. I gave up on Strats and bought a 1999 G&L USA Legacy, which is based on one of Leo Fender's later improvements to the Strat design. I'll take that thing to my grave. Its that good!

 

Yep I agree. Those early mid 80s mij fenders are as close as you can get to 50s 60s reissue but they are going up in value every year and harder to find: tokai lawsuit strats and les Paul's are amazing to id take one over any big name out there. I'm trying to find some around me they hardly ever pop up. G&L is good stuff as well. Check out the tokai love rock les Paul copy ls150 model and the tokai springy sound strat. Copy

I'll have to do a bit more research on how to repair it at a later time. Thanks for sharing knowledge and leading me in the right direction!

After all, it doesn't hurt my playing and it doesn't change the sound... I shouldn't worry, it just made me angry at the time.

In the mean time, I'll just keep my PRS clean and make sure it is always stowed away in the case. I love that guitar more than any other.

 

Greg Baum at Sweetwater contacted me today to let me know my Jem jr came in. Pretty stoked.
Had a hard time deciding if I wanted it shipped 600 miles to me or have my parents pick it up, but I won't be able to play it till Christmas when I go home again.
He's sending it out tomorrow.

Anybody interested in any EVH Pedals? I have the Phaser, Flanger, and the new 5150 Overdrive that have been played through once.

 

3 pedals all brand new used once. Going a different direction. Paid 199.99 for the 5150 Overdrive Pedal, 180.00 for the Flander Pedal, and 129.00 for the Phaser Pedal. Thinking 150.00 for either the 5150 pedal or Flanger Pedal and 100.00 for the Phaser Pedal. I still have all the boxes as well. All are Best Offer as well
