Dropped the Jackson off at my local shop today.
Having them order an original Floyd Rose and hardware in gold. I think the gold bits will look really nice against the red.

We measured out nut/bridge width and will double check when my luthier, Dick Young gets a hold of it.
The distributor for the Floyd is in Plano Texas and although the website says "business as usual", they were close to some of the areas damaged by the hurricane a few weeks back.

Also today, I purchased a Seymour Duncan SH-4 JB zebra to replace this lame Jackson bridge pickup in the HSS config. The 2 single coils will stay for the moment. And I'll have them look the pots and wiring while Dick has it part.

Looking at a couple week turn around.

Well. The Jackson's been in the shop for almost 2 weeks. I called last Saturday and my guy didn't know what was going on. Said it was sitting in the same place it was when I dropped it off.

Dick Young (Luthier) was supposed to come by that Monday morning to measure nut width to determine if I need a 0, R1 or R2 nut for the Floyd. No one called.

I started thinking that maybe the Floyd was really to good of a trem to put in it. I mean, $350 is a bit out of my budget and then the in zebra on top of that. That's more than double what I paid for the guitar.

So maybe I made a huge mistake but if it doesn't turn out as expected, I can always pull the JB and the genuine FR and put them in something else, return the jsx to original and sell it off.

    Patiently.....waiting.

Is there anyone familiar with tube amps?

Would you say a volume dip/peak without the player ever touching the controls a characteristic of failed/failing tubes?

I went through cords, power sources, each effect pedal, and at least I now know for sure it’s the amp.

Edit: The volume insanity occurs after 10 - 15 min. of playing time. This is what leads me to believe the tubes are causing this, but I’m not 100% sure.

I honestly couldnt say. Ive owned 1 tube head.
I think the most common tubes are the GL6. Do you see a difference in brightness of the tubes when the volume drop happens?

They're easy to replace. Mesa Boogie makes excellent replacement tubes. Lots of people use those regardless of who made the amp.

Mesa Boogie doesn't make Tubes, they just source them well.

    What kind (brand) of amp?

Is it fully tube or hybrid?

Point to point or circuit board?

Is there a smell when tubes are hot?

Are any tubes glowing brighter (burning hotter) than others?

Super bummed I missed out on these 2 CL finds.
Messaged and emailed the guy and then the ad disappeared. Guessing he sold them and forgot to take the ad down

    100% tube.

    I don’t believe it’s a PTP wired amp. (I’m not sure.)

    No funny smells!

I need to fire her back up and take a closer look if there is substantial difference in the tubes while they glow.

The only thing I do notice is a fluctuation in volume after a few minutes of playing.

Best case scenario: bad tube or tubes need bias.
When they're cold, tap with a pencil eraser and listen for a faint "ting" sound. Check out the glow when why're fully warmed up. Look for one tube burning too hot. Don't replace all the tubes

Worst case scenario: circuit board issue.
Most old school techs will tell you to trash it and invest in a P2P amp.

    Best of luck!

Thanks for the advice. I’ve secretly always wanted to replace the tubes anyway. (Pre-amp and power). Now I have a small excuse to do so. I’ve just learned the tap trick today when I watched this video:

Here’s another question for you all.

Do you think balanced/matched tubes are just a marketing hype to separate a buyer from his/her cash?

I’m watching comparisons on YouTube for different tubes my amp is compatible with.
