I have one. It's an amazing guitar. Swapped pickups for JB and '59 and this guitar sings. It's my main in the band I play in.

 

I’m thinking about building one of those $120 V kits. I don’t have $600+ to drop on a Korina V or Gibson faded.

 

I still have my 1987 Washburn RS8 I payed $550 in 1987 it a good guitar

 

So in my recent search for a "V" shaped guitar...

I really wish the guitar market was a bit more honest and transparent. Mind you, the E-II and ESP have a better cutaway at the rear for better access to the higher frets. But still...

I care about little things like: if I were to drag my finger across the edges of a neck - there shouldn't be a single fret sticking out that snags my skin off, small defects in paint when purchased new, etc... Unfortunately, this is the case with guitars in the lower range, and my point is that it should not take a guitar over $1000 to have quality like that.

Just a little rant...

 

The only guitars well under $1000 I've had good luck with are Mexican Fenders. I've sent back several Indonesian and Chinese cheapies with blemishes and fret issues from the factory.

 

Classic vibe squier Chinese are great to.

 

Oh, yeah...I've heard that too. Fender seems to do cheap-mid price better than most. My problems with Fenders have been with the American ones, actually. Out of 6 I've owned, only 2 could be setup to Fender's own specs without fret leveling. These were new or nearly new guitars, mind you. I've had better luck with G&L for Fender style American made guitars.

 

Makes sense. For fender I try and buy Japanese only if possible. Those early to late 80s strats are incredible.im always on the look out for the lawsuit strats to those are
Basically a USA fender if not better.I do have a 2008 classic vibe and a couple early 90s Koreans tho. I play the classic vibe more Than anything honestly well for my blues and classic rock playing great guitars I like it better than any Mexican fender I’ve picked up.

Finally getting a chance to hit up the store in a few mins. Havnt talked to your buddy yet but i'm going to look at the George Lynch Kamikaz1, A snow white LTD M1000 and finally the demo EVH red/blk/white.
Makes no sense for me to buy anything while im here as shipping and no tax to residents outside of indiana will save me a few.
