I posted some pics of the last time I visited Sweetwater, so I'll post some of this trip.
Played several while I was here this round. Charvel San Dimas, epi's, some esp's, Gibson's, EVH wolfgangs....etc. even went and sat in the acoustic room for a bit while that "one guy" you find in every music store plays like shit at like 9 on the amp.

 

After some confusion with shipping and my CC company stepping in to clock block my purchase...
700 miles later, It and I made it home.

I have all 3, well I used to before I sold them all. Even did my laptop a while ago, and a guitar case.

 

I think the 5150 or the black and white EVH might be my next purchase. Gotta sell some of the 1984 Ibanez Roadstars to make room.

 

I picked up some Grover locking rotomatics a few weeks ago for one of my newish Dean ML X.
Not your typical locking tuner with the dial on the bottom.
Anyone have any of these installed and how do you like them? Watched a few vids and they look kinda quirky how they lock the string.

 

How’d this work out for you Rich?

When you flip those tuners over, is there a model number stamped on it?

Like : 102, 102v, 102-18...

I’m currently switching everything over to chrome...

 

Havnt even opened the package yet. My Dean ML fell over and tore the input jack out so I'm gonna see about drilling/mounting in the side.

They are "406C". Hole size .391. 25/64 drill bit.
I've watched a few vids on them. Interesting how there is no fine tune dial. It has a rotating cam inside the string slot. You turn the cam till it's aligned and slip the string in. Then the inside cam moves and clamps the string. 18/1 gear ratio.

 

Thanks. Now the whole “locking” deal makes sense. I wouldn’t have figured that out by looking at the pictures online.

 

I can't believe some of these prices.
I have a $130 affinity squire with a $60 setup that probably plays as well as as some of these.
Just ridiculous.

 

Oh yeah. I agree. These are the top shelf models that get you in the shop and dreaming, (Like the Bullitt Mustang or ZL1 Camaro) then reality sets in and the consumer compromises. The only thing in these pics that's appealing to me is the Explorer, but I'd be just as happy with an Epiphone Korina model. I had one but sold it a couple years back. They recently reissued them because the old models where commanding higher and higher prices.

 

Oh yea. The korina epiphone explorer or a mid 80's dt555? Destroyer has been on my hit list for a long time.
I guess pricing has been one of the reasons for the Roadstar 2 purchases for me. The look, feel, action of them surpass any of the fenders I have played and at nearly half the cost.

Seems pricing is being based on nostalgia as of recent. "America's original 50's strat". Yours for only $1900!!
