very cool color. I have the black with red binding and red with black binding. love the shape of the 530. can't remember off the top of my head how many of that marine sunburst color were made.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
I jumped offline for a bit to focus on a project. Wish you well bro!

I have a ‘91 LPSTD, with and ebony fretboard, Hrtge Cherry. Headstock is broken off (like a bristle brush) at the nut. Anyone know of a competent luthier who could repair? I can provide pics, but I dont have high hopes of it being repaired. Shown it to a couple of folks over the years, most say prob going to need a new neck…. I don’t want to lose that fingerboard! Haha

Would said local legend still be around? I have exhausted all of the local options I am immediately aware of. Spoke to Gibson about 10 years ago, and they wanted $1500 to put a new neck on, not repair the original. Honestly, they really did seem interested.

Here is mine. I bought it second hand in '91 and it still just has the one little scratch that it had when I bought it. I had no idea there was such an active market for these guitars. I'm going to put it in to have some work done now that I have a second guitar to play.

Gave em a call, they referred me to a luthier of a different name. Haven't called him just yet though. Ive seen a guy on youtube fix one with a similar break. So I know it CAN be done. But he is in Ontario, Canada, and doesn’t do US repairs at all. It a job not for the faint of heart. Hahaha

    Shoot me his name...

I had my Gibson SG suffer the same fate. I took it to Long & McQuade (Canadian National franchise music shop, very well known here) for just a string change and yearly setup. Went to pick it up and the guitar tech put the case up on the counter and opened the case for me to inspect it on return. Dood opens the case and the head stands up like a 14 yr old boys pecker at at cheerleader competition. Buddy Arc Welders face went white...I look at him and says "well, that just doesn't look right". Owner comes by and says he'll make things right by getting it fixed or an agreed upon value to store credit. I grabbed a used SRV strat off the wall and said let me think about while taking this home for a week or so. I really didn't want the SG back after that, I would think I would have cringed every time I would be be tightening up strings to tune it, fearing it would snap again.

I didn't like the SRV and test drove a few different guitars, ultimately settling for a 1986 '59 re-issue strat in a tweed hardcase. Seafoam green. Great guitar that I regret selling years later.

Fast forward 15 years later, 2020 pandemic days I pull out one of my acoustics (Seagull S6+CW) and notice the neck at the body had delaminated and cracked. Wife bought me this stick for my B'day in 1999. Took it to the local guitar shop in my small town and asked what I could do? He said it it was too big a job for him but knew a local luthier that builds custom guitars. This guy's guitars START at 5000 bux and go up from there.. got quoted 200 bux to fix it...do it! Turned out excellent.

Dennis Kwasnycia is his name... https://www.kwasnyciaguitars.com/

He's local to me, and if you want to go down that road, perhaps I can help.

But, I would never want a snapped head fixed guitar personally...you might. Let me know...

I won't buy another Gibson SG either, for that same reason...apparently it's a somewhat common happening

    Woodfordinstruments.com I think…
Its worth almost as much to me broken as it would be repaired.(barring the obvious impracticality of that statement) Its not necessarily the neck itself that I am attached to, but I feel like removing the fretboard to reapply to a new neck would also be a challenge. Not to mention, I would want to maintain the same radius and contour as the original. May be difficult to replicate with available replacement. I would pay up to a certain amount to make it reliably playable again. But logistics for a Canadian based repair might push it beyond the point of “doable” for me.:)
Shame about the SG, sounds like they broke it and hoped you wouldn't notice until you got home. in my cynical opinion :D

Yup, I get the "worth" parameter...that's why I parabled about the Seagull. I would have paid twice what that guitar is worth new today to repair that guitar, given it's sentimentality to me. That it ended up costing me a fraction of that, by a guy whose hands craft the guitars that he does...that's a story I will have to share with my grandkids (don't have any and never will...so you cats now gotta suck it up).

Addendum to the above post...while I had the Seagull in for those repairs, the wife bought me my PRS CE-22 20th

I actually suck for playing since 95, but I know what's good, good looking and sexy lines....methinks I chose well for a wife....I digress

I'd actually (if I were you) look into finding a twin neck to yours, and if needed attempt the fret board swap, than repair a broken neck just above the nut...forgive my ignorance of LPJ's are the set neck or bolt on?
